Homoeopaths flay council decision

Ludhiana, February 28
As the Central Council of Homeopathy (CCH) has taken up in the agenda of its 37th meeting to be held on March 20, 2004 the issue of the one-year course in homeopathy for graduates of modern medicine. The issue has been condemned by the Indian Homeopathic Medical Association (IHMA). The IHMA has started a campaign to gherao the CCH on March 20 during the meeting in New Delhi in protest.

It said that if one-year course could be started for graduates of modern medicine, the MCI should also start such a course for homeopathy graduates. They would reach the CCH office with black flags to gherao the CCH. OC

Sandeep, Amandeep best athletes

Amandeep Kaur, a student of first year (information and technology), in the girl’s section, while Sandeep Singh, a student of third year, gave stupendous individual performances to win best athletes titles in the two-day 44th annual athletics meet of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, which concluded here yesterday.

Mr Simratpal Singh, DSP, City-II, presided over the prize distribution function. He emphasised the importance of sports in the overall development of personality. Dr R.P. Singh, Principal of the college, thanked the chief guest and congratulated the medal winners.

Govind college athletics meet

The 32nd athletics meet of Govind National College, Narangwal, concluded here on Thursday. Manjit Singh and Lakhvir Kaur were adjudged best athletes amongst boys and girls sections, respectively. The meet was inaugurated by Mr Harbakhash Singh Khangura, while Mr Balbir Singh, secretary, college management, gave away the prizes to the winners.

Harwinder Singh shines

Mandi Gobindgarh, February 28
Gobindgarh Public College, Allour, held its first annual athletics meet and prize distribution function at the college ground on Saturday. The chief guest, Mr Chaman Lal Garg, chairman, GPC, unfurled the flag and declared the meet open.
Students who were divided into four Houses took part in the march-past and 37 sporting events.

Manpreet Singh, a student of BA-I, exhibited his karate skills. Mr Om Prakash Goyal, acting president, Gobindgarh Education and Social Welfare Trust, gave away prizes to the winner of the athletics meet and toppers of house examination. The students who had taken part in the zonal youth festival and 36th Punjab University Athletics Meet were also awarded certificates.

The Principal, Dr Suresh Tondon, read out the annual report of the college. Harwinder Singh was declared best athlete among boys and Gurpreet and Chandan Deep were jointly declared best athlete among girls.

Cop’s transfer blocked

Ludhiana, February 28
The state government is learnt to have blocked the joining of controversial policeman Shamsher Singh Guddu as SHO, Basti Jodhewal police station, after some senior officials of the police department objected to the move.
