Apex School sail into soccer final

New Delhi: Apex Public School, Burari, entered the final of the under-14 Kangaroo Cup Football Tournament when they trounced Father Agnel School, Noida, 6-1, at the Ambedkar Stadium on Sunday.

Father Agnel School took the lead in the fifth minute through Thangtinsem but a minute later, Sunny pulled off the equaliser for Apex School. Two minutes later, Ganesh enhanced the lead while Sudip made it 3-1 in the 19th minute.

Ganesh struck again to widen the margin to 4-1 in the 24th minute while Sudipto and Sunny added a goal each in the 26th and 28th minute, respectively.

In a Group B under-14 match, St. Francis De Sales School, Janakpuri, defeated N K Bagrodia School, Rohini, 1-0. R Shivam scored the match-winner in the 11th minute. N K Bagrodia will take on Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, while Father Agnel will meet Central Reserve Police Force School, Rohini, in the last quarter-final league matches. The finals will be held on January 28. There will be no match on Monday. DSA to hold trials

The Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) will hold selection trials on January 27 at the Ambedkar Stadium to pick the Delhi team for the Under-21 National Football Championship for the M K Dutta Roy Trophy to be held in Haryana next month. The DSA will also field a team in the All-India Dr Ambedkar Memorial Invitational Football Tournament to be held at Surat from February 8. Gyan Bharati enter Rajiv Tourney final

Varun Sudan hit a brilliant century (124) and off-spinner Naman Khanna claimed three wickets for 35 runs as Gyan Bharati South Delhi Academy defeated Ravindra Public School by five wickets to enter the final of the second Rajiv Gandhi Cup Under-17 Cricket Tournament at the Picnick Hut ground at Ashok Vihar.

Scores : Ravindra School: 212 for 6 in 35 overs (Sandeepp Karki 55, Pankaj Sethi 42, Naman Khanna 3 for 35, Shuaib Prasad 2 for 31). Gyan Bharati: 214 for 5 in 33.2 overs (Varun Sudan 124, Gaurav Choudhary 47, Hemant Singh 3 for 39).

Kapil to distribute prizes

Former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev will distribute the prizes of the inaugural Aviva Young Achiever Under-13 Cricket Tournament on the Gyan Bharati School premises at Saket. Gyan Bharati South Delhi Academy lifted the title, defeating United Cricket Academy. Gyan Bharati School principal R C Sekhar and former Test cricketer Gursharan Singh will also be present.

Mayank, Aditya star in Mayapuri’s victory

Mayank Sethi played an all-round role and Aditya Aima scored a quickfire 92 to help Mayapuri defeat Alpine Club by 68 runs in an A-II Division match of the DDCA League at the Mohan Meakins ground.

Scores : Mayapuri: 230 for 3 in 35 overs (Aditya Aima 92,, Mayank Sethi 80).

Alpine Club: 162 all out in 31.3 overs (Anshuman Kambhoj 80, Sanyog Kumar 55, Mayank Sethi 4 for 21, Piyush Negi 4 for 29).

Indian Airlines move into semis

Deadly bowling by Sonu Sharma (4 for 9) played a crucial role in helping Indian Airlines defeat Rohtak Road Gymkhana by 31 runs and enter the semi-final of the 8th Sahibzada Ajit Singh Cricket Tournament at the Guru Gobind Singh College ground at Pitampura. Sonu Sharma was declared the man of the match.

Scores : Indian Airlines: 143 all out in 20 overs (Rajatt Bhatia 41, Manvinder Bisla 36, Chandan Madan 31, Sandeep Angurala 3 for 48, Rachit Kapoor 3 for 19).

R R Gymkhana: 112 for 8 in 20 overs (Sandeep Angurala 38, Neeraj Chawla 30, Sonu Sharma 4 for 9, Sandeep Sawal 3 for 21).

Bal Bharati School win

Bal Bharati Public School, Pitampura, defeated Mount Abu School by ten wickets in a league match of the Rohtak Road Gymkhana Inter-School Under-16 Cricket Tournament at the Ramjas ground.

Scores : Mount Abu School: 176 for 9 in 40 overs (Niteshh Kumar 47, Abhishek Kumar 37, Akash Kumar 35, Harshad Kumar 4 for 2, Utsav Kumar 4 for 39). Bal Bharati School: 179 for no loss in 28.4 overs (Sagar Dahiya 100 n o, Ujjawal Kumar 54).

Kapil’s memorabilia on auction

Former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev was at his merciful best when he personally auctioned his autographed memorabilia in aid of ‘Concern India Foundation’. The bidders competed enthusiastically to pick up ‘treasured’ pieces of clothes and other items. The auction was an initiative to gather public participation for a social cause under the ‘wardrobe exchange offer’ at Shoppers’ Stop.

Pranay best judoka

New Delhi: Pranay of GIS, who won the 28-32 kg gold in the 8-10 years age category, was adjudged the best judoka in the L G Electronics Delhi State Judo Championship held on the Netaji Subhash Modern Sports Club premises in Defence Colony. JKPS, who logged 23 points, lifted the team championship.

In the 12-14 years age group, Shally Manral of Bal Bhawan was adjudged the best judoka. Shally Manral emerged winner in the 40-45 kg weight category. HRJC won the team championship.
