Painting contest draws students

Ludhiana, January 25
Ludhiana City Jaycees organised an inter-school painting competition at Tagore Public School here today. More than 100 students from various schools, including GGN Public School, Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, BRS Nagar, Tagore Public School, RS Model School, BCM School, DAV School and Sacred Heart School, Sarabha Nagar, participated.

Ashiya Vohra (DAV), Harsimran (GGN), Gurpreet (Sacred Heart, BRS Nagar), Jaspreet Kaur (GGN), Surbhi Goya l(BCM), Ravneet (GGN), Deepinder Kaur (Sacred Heart, BRS), Rajdeep Kaur (GGN), Manjot Kaur (GGN), Anju (RS Model Senior Secondary School), Jasmine (BCM Arya Model ) and Divita Arora (Tagore Public School) were the winners of various competitions.

Mr Gurcharan Singh, Head of Fine Arts of GCW, and Ms Manjit Randhawa from Guru Nanak Girls College were the judges.

Inter-state knitting contest for students

Ludhiana, January 25
More than two lakh students from over 1,100 schools from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Chandigarh are expected to take part in “aao bune” knitting contest to be organised by the Vardhman Spinning and General Mills for the third consecutive year.

Mr V.K. Goyal, chief executive of the company, said there was good response to the contest last year. The contest had been adjudged the largest knitting contest in the country and had made an entered the Limca Book of Records.

According to Mr Harish Bhatia, product manager of the mills, students from classes VI to XI could participate and the contest would be organised at intra-school level and subsequently at the zonal inter-school level. The participants would have to knit a pattern of their choice in one and a half hour on the spot.

In the opening round here today, students from New Senior Secondary School, Sanatan Dharam Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, and Government Girls Senior Secondary School (PAU campus) took part. The three best entries from each school in each category would be eligible for the zonal level contest.

Students partake in health quiz

Ludhiana, January 25
Cremica organised a health and hygiene quiz at Spring Dale Senior Secondary School here yesterday.
The major topics covered in the quiz were included human anatomy, social health balanced diet, food, diseases and their prevention and general cleanliness. Some local doctors had helped in preparation for the quiz.

Another contest, called “My Balanced Diet”, was open to all students. For this, they had to plan their one-day diet according to the specifications provided to them.
