Court seeks review of 70-yr-old colonial notification
New Delhi, January 18
The Delhi Police cannot arrest anyone on the charge of criminal intimidation, following a directive of the Delhi High Court to the Delhi Government, asking it to quash Section 506 of the IPC (criminal intimidation), a 70-year-old notification. The final decision is pending with the city government on the “necessity” of its continuation.

Bride says ‘no’ to drunk groom
Meerut, January 18
A groom had to pay a heavy price for a bout of drinking: The would-be-wife, infuriated on finding him in an inebriated condition in the marriage pandal, refused to marry him. Miffed over having been rebuffed, the drunk baratis ransacked the banquet hall and also allegedly beat up several ‘ladkiwale’.

Mystery of three burnt bodies cracked

With the arrest of five persons, including a woman, the South district police today claimed to have solved a triple murder case reported on January 4 in the Surajkund area in Faridabad in which three dead bodies were found in a burnt condition.

Trains delayed due to fog

Rail traffic on the Delhi-Ambala-Kalka (DuK) section of the Northern Railway continued to remain disrupted today due to heavy fog. Both long distance and suburban trains were running behind schedule, stranding large number of passengers at Sonepat and nearby railway stations.

The Shakti Vahini, an NGO involved in taking up the causes of women, has decided to take up the matter of the ‘increasing number’ of the cases of girl trafficking in Haryana with the organisations like Amnesty International and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

Prices of onion are likely to come down in the next few days following improvement in weather and resumption of near-normal supplies from other states, according to Mr Rajinder Sharma, general secretary of Potato and Onion Merchants Association at Ch. Hira Singh Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Market in Azadpur Sabzi Mandi, the largest wholesale vegetable market in Asia.

The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Om Parkash Chautala, claimed that the government had spent Rs 1,000 crore on the various development schemes in Sonepat district during the last four years. This was stated by the Chief Minister while laying the foundation stone of a Rs 60 crore modern fruit and vegetable market at Rai, about 15 km from here yesterday.
