Moti Bagh school record easy victory

New Delhi, January 18
Government Boys Senior Secondary School No 1, Moti Bagh and Chiranjiv Bharati School, Palam Vihar (Gurgaon) scored easy victories in the under-17 age group of the Kangaro Cup Football Tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium on Sunday.

In a Group B match, Government School, Moti Bagh, defeated Sarvodaya Eo-Education School, Nanakpura, 3-1 to collect three points. Kushal put Moti Bagh in the lead in the 15th minute. Rinku enhanced the lead three minutes later and Aditya completed the tally for the winners in the 34th minute.

After taking a 3-0 lead, the Moti Bagh boys slackened their tempo, and Sarvodaya School utilised this opportunity to pull back a consolation goal in the 55th minute through Shyam.

In another Group B match, Chiranjiv Bharati School trounced Hanuman Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, Raghubir Nagar 6-0. Inside-right Ashutosh was the star of the victory as he slotted home a brilliant hattrick, with the goals coming in the 16th, 34th and 40th minutes. Medio Hitesh accounted for a brace when he struck in quick succession in the 36th and 38th minutes while Gaurav scored the other goal.

Chiranjiv Bharati School also emerged victorious in the under-14 section when they defeated Sarvodaya Senior Secondary School, Moti Bagh No 2, by 3-0. Ashutosh scored two goals while Gaurav chipped in with the third. Chiranjiv Bharati have now qualified for the semi-finals.

Valuable knocks by Sumit Rana (91) and Rajan Gupta (87) helped Lal Bahadur Shastri Club defeat Pahari Dhiraj Club by 36 runs in an A-I Division match of the DDCA League at the Mohan Meakins ground. Scores: Shastri Club: 253 for 3 in 40 overs (Sumit Rana 91, Rajan Gupta 87 n o, Soumik Chatterjee 45, Sarvpreet Singh 2 for 39). Harpreet stars for Ramjas

An all-round performance by Harpreet Singh (36 and 3 for 6) helped Ramjas School No-2 defeat St. Mark School, Meera Bagh, by 18 runs in a league match of the Rohtak Road Gymkhana Inter-School Under-16 Cricket Tournament at the Ramjas School ground.

Scores: Ramjas No 2: 115 all out in 27.1 overs (Harpreet Singh 36, Sumit Dua 3 for 21, Nitin Tuteja 3 for 30).

St. Mark School: 97 all out in 28.2 overs (Varun Anand 30, Harpreet Singh 3 for 6, Amit Kumar 3 for 34). In another match, a devastating bowling spell of 7 for 23 by Naman Gupta helped Salwan Public School defeat Mount St. Mary’s School by 63 runs. H L Parvana Soccer

The 22nd H L Parvana Memorial Football Tournament will be organised by the Oriental Bank Football Club from February 5 to 19 at the Ambedkar Stadium. Deadly bowling by left-arm spinner Mahender Pal Singh (4 for 18) and an unbeaten half century by Naveen Verma helped Maharaja Umed Singh Club defeat All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) by nine wickets and entered the semi-final of the 8th Sahibzada Ajit Singh Cricket Tournament at the Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce ground at Pitampura. Mahender Pal was declared the man of the match.

Sonnet Club defeated United Delhi Academy by four wickets in a league match of the second Rajeev Gandhi Memorial Under-17 Cricket Tournament at the Picknick Hut ground. The second PHDCCI-GPI Bridge Tournament will be held from January 22 to 25. The tournament, to be held in association with Godfrey Philips India Ltd, will carry a cash prize of Rs 6 lakh and the Rai Bahadur GM Modi Rolling Trophy. The participants will include professional bridge players, noted industrialists, NRIs, diplomats and select experts of the game from the United States and the United Kingdom.

Rajat, Mayank star in title victory

A strokeful century by Rajat Gupta (100, 9x4, 4x6) and 98 by Mayank Sethi helped Sumit Academy defeat Government School, Jheel by 58 runs in the final of the fourth Shakuntala Devi Memorial Under-19 Cricket Tournament.

Piyush Negi was adjudged the best batsman of the tournament while Mayank Sethi got the twin award of man of the match and best all-rounder. Parvinder Awana got the best bowler award while Aditya Aima got the best fielder award and Vivek Srivastava of Jheel the man of the tournament award. Kapil Dev gave away the prizes.
