It was a wait of different kind that brought politicians from different parities together on one waiting ground. The venue was the makeshift helipad on the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) campus where several Akalis, partner in the NDA government and Congress leaders ranging from the state Congress president to the Cabinet minister sat in wait for the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr L.K. Advani.

205 employees of PLDRC retrenched
Families on brink of starvation
Ludhiana, January 18
The families of 205 employees of Punjab Land Development and Reclamation Corporation (PLDRC), Laddowal, near here are on the brink of starvation, as they had not been paid for an year.

Standoff with workers  continues
Ludhiana, January 18
With the unrest among the workers of Nova cycles and other industrial units continuing, the District Magistrate, Ludhiana, Mr Anurag Verma, in an order issued here today imposed Section 144 of CrPC and banned holding of demonstrations, dharnas, rallies and assembly of five or more persons in the jurisdictions of the district.

Anil Singla remained unbeaten on 55 as VCC XI recorded a 9-wicket win over Thunder Bolt XI in the first match of the Eighth Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Cricket Tournament being organised by the Shastri Young Society at Daresi Ground here today.
