Assault on nurse: HC admits petition against hospitals
New Delhi, October 17
The Delhi High Court has admitted a petition seeking registration of an FIR against Shanti Mukund Hospital, G T B Hospital and their doctors for allegedly failing to take proper care of the nurse, who was raped and blinded by an employee of a private nursing home last month.

MDU V-C suspends lecturer for ‘lese-majeste’

The Academic Council meeting of Maharshi Dayanand University held today ended abruptly after heated exchanges between vice-chancellor Maj-Gen (retd) Bhim Singh Suhag and Dr Himmat Singh Ratnoo, lecturer in the Department of Economics and a member of the council.

MCD admits to ten dengue deaths in Capital
New Delhi, October 17
The MCD today conceded that 10 persons had died of dengue in the Capital, even as the number of patients continued to swell. With 14 new dengue cases surfacing, the total number of confirmed patients has touched the 1230-mark.

Sonepat city and other parts of the district are in the grip of dengue fever and malaria, largely due to the failure of the Health Department to check the diseases.

Disturbed and angry at the recent spurt in the number of rape cases and violence against women in the city, several women’s organisations today asked Deputy Prime Minister, Mr L K Advani, to ensure the conviction of rapists under the existing laws. They called for sterner action, instead of holding out hollow promises of awarding death sentence to such criminals.
