Chemical discharge irks residents

One held with opium

The Sahnewal police yesterday arrested Sarka Singh, a resident of Kot Gangu Rai village, and seized 50 gm of contraband opium from his possession. The police said today that the accused, who was intercepted by a police party near Ramgarh culvert, has been booked under Sections 18, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.

Rs 1 lakh aid  for school

Mr Sukhdev Singh Libra, MP, laid the foundation stone of the boundary wall of the playground at Government Senior Secondary School, Naraingarh, 3 km from here yesterday. Mr Libra handed over a cheque for Rs 1 lakh for the construction of the boundary wall and promised more grant for its completion.
