Rs 1 lakh aid for school

Mr Sukhdev Singh Libra, MP, laid the foundation stone of the boundary wall of the playground at Government Senior Secondary School, Naraingarh, 3 km from here yesterday. Mr Libra handed over a cheque for Rs 1 lakh for the construction of the boundary wall and promised more grant for its completion. He praised the Principal for the all-round development of the school.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Roshan Lal Sood, Principal, said the school had shown good results in examinations for classes VIII, X and XII this year. In sports, the school had won distinctions in district, state and national level events.

Mr Joginder Singh, Principal of Government School, Khantmanpur, criticised the appointment of teachers on contract basis. Among others Mr Jassa Singh Ahuluwalia, member SGPC, Mr Hardial Singh Naraingarh, Mr Zora Singh Haripur and Mr Hari Singh Machhrai addressed the gathering.

A dental check-up camp was also organised by Desh Bhagat Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital, Mandi Gobindgarh. A team of doctors — Dr Prabhjot Kaur, Dr Mithlesh Verma, Dr Vaishali, Dr Sunina, Dr Swati and Dr Reshu — examined 390 students and provided medicines free of cost to them. Dr Prabhjot Kaur delivered a lecture on dental hygiene.

Students participate in Ehsaas

Ludhiana, August 17
Sai Kiran College of Fine Arts and Fashion Technology organised Ehsaas-2003, a cultural event, at Nehru Sidhant Kendra last evening. About 100 students participated in a number of competitions during Ehsaas. The guests had a good surprise when the students of the college volunteered to tattoo arms of willing persons. They also offered to paint T-shirts.

The results of various completions were as follows: dance (children) — Dara Singh I, Mansi Bansal II, Khushi and Aastha III.

Modelling (boys): best physique — Sukhwinder Gill; best tiger walk — Money; photogenic face — Tony; costumes — Anas; Charming personality — Deet; height — Karan; hair style — Anas, Tony (second runner-up), Deet (first runner-up).

Girls: best smile — Varsha; best figure — Dolly; photogenic face — Sonica; hair style and costumes — Sakshi.

The judges were: Mr S.P. Gogna (Principal of St Marry International School), Diwan Jagdish Chander (former MLA), Ms Amritvarsha (MC councillor), Ms Sukhraj (founder of the Sahiba Welfare Society), Ms Rashmi Gangwani (lecturer), Mr Naden Khan (model), Mr Lovepreet Singh Sodi (Sodhi Music Mehal), Madam Ramneek, Vikas Singla (model), Deep Prajwalit.

The event was inaugurated by Mr Gurbinder Singh Atwal.

Mr A.K. Dadoo (vice-president of Reliance India), Mr Pritam Singh Bhatia (Print Shoppe), Mr Varinder Nita, Mr V.K. Rampal (advocate), Mr Ravinder Sehghal, Mr Vinod Bhalla (general secretaries of Youth Congress, Urban) were the guests of honour.
