Authorities demand records in Rs 5 lakh embezzlement case
Our Correspondent

Rohtak, August 1
The authorities in Chandigarh have asked the Rohtak administration to send the complete records pertaining to the embezzlement of Rs 5 lakh by the then Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) at Kalanaur town, 25 km from here.

Gulab Singh Ghanghas retired from the post of BDPO, Kalanaur on January 31. He allegedly took out an amount of Rs 5 lakh from the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) under the ‘Food for Grain’ scheme to repair two link roads-from Mandhuadhi to Garnawathi and from Basana to Sample villages in Kalanaur block last August. The amount was to be spent through the Panchayat Samiti. The BDPO took out the amount allegedly with the connivance of a junior engineer and an assistant on January 28-29, just two days before his retirement. However, the president and the members of the Panchayat Samiti inquired into the matter from the office of DRDA, Rohtak.

They reported the matter to the district authorities, which constituted an inquiry committee led by the then Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mr Rakesh Gupta.

The ADC had found irregularities in the construction work and faxed his report to the authorities in Chandigarh in February.
