Chautala ‘refused’ to give
funds to ex-Fiji PM Chandigarh, January 17 In a statement issued here today the Leader of Opposition, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, accused the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, of having committed “an act unworthy of a Chief Minister” by refusing to give crores of rupees collected from the people of Haryana to Mr Chaudhary. However, the President of the Haryana INLD, Mr Sher Singh Badshami, denied the allegations levelled by Mr Hooda and said the money could not be given to Mr Chaudhary because of certain legal constraints. Accusing Mr Chautala of running the state government like a tyrant and reducing the ministers and his party MLAs to “the status of bonded labourers”, Mr Hooda said they did not have the guts to ask the Chief Minister to give account of the money he had collected on behalf of Mr Chaudhary. Mr Hooda also accused the BJP of keeping silence. Mr Badshami said there was a legal hitch over transferring money to a foreign country. The entire money, he said, had been deposited in a nationalised bank. It could be withdrawn by him (Mr Badshami) and one more person. Till date, he said, no money had been withdrawn from the account. Asserting that Mr Chautala held Mr Chaudhary in the high esteem, Mr Badshami said the day the INLD supremo wanted to meet Mr Chaudhary in Delhi, the latter was busy with a number of public functions. Later, Mr Chautala was pre-occupied. He said the money would now be used to promote the cause of all those people of Indian Origin who were in public life in the countries of their settlement. |
