‘Surra’ cases reported

Ludhiana, October 10
Several cases of “surra” (trypanosomiasis) have been reported from various parts of the state. Some cases have come to light from Ludhiana that were brought to the PAU Veterinary Hospital and were found positive for the disease. The dairy owners have been advised to take the affected animal to the nearest hospital.

Pt Jasraj to perform in city

The Ludhiana Sanskritik Samagam (LSS) will organise a programme, “The divine experience”, by Pandit Jasraj on October 23 at the Guru Nanak Dev Bhavan here.

A contemporary doyen of the Indian vocal music, Pandit Jasraj has not only received prestigious awards and titles, these have also been instituted in his name. A foreign university, the University of Toronto, has instituted a scholarship in his name for young Canadians wishing to learn music.

Also, the first Visor Award was instituted specially in his honour by the university in 1999 for the first time since its inception 200 years ago. A rolling trophy instituted by the Rotary Club of Mumbai (Shivaji Park), an award by the public of Pune, an auditorium in New York, all in his name stand testimony to his grandeur.

‘Ulta Pulta’ completes 2 years

On the completion of two years’ of publication of Punjabi paper Samrala Bulletin also known as Ulta Pulta, a function was held here at the Community, Centre Club under the chairmanship of Mr Kamaljeet Rattan, political advisor to the British High Commissioner at Delhi.

The paper is run under the patronship of comedy king Jaspal Bhatti.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Kamaljeet Rattan said at present, it is very difficult to make people laugh and to make them forget their hardships in life. He said Ulta Pulta had great potential in the field of comedy and presented news in a humorous way, which is rarely seen in other news papers.
