The Karnal Cooperative Sugar Mills has been declared as India’s best cooperative sugar factory. It has bagged three prestigious awards for the season 2001-02 at national level. The prizes include Best Cooperative Sugar Factory in other recovery area, second prize for financial management in other recovery area and India’s Best Cooperative Sugar Factory.

Plant to supply adequate power
Chandigarh, October 5
The Haryana Power Generation Corporation will undertake works worth about Rs 4,000 crore in order to supply adequate power in the state. This was revealed at a meeting held by the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, to review the working of the corporation here last evening. Works worth about Rs 2,000 crore were already under various stages of implementation.

A private doctor of Charkhi Dadri town in the district had to pay Rs 74,250 to a patient for a wrong diagnosis and treatment on the direction of District Consumer Redressal Forum.

The new administrator of the Punjab Wakf Board, Dr M. Rahman, today said he would try to bring reform in madarsas.

The Haryana Tourism has launched a special drive for attracting budget tourists and has made special economic packages for students. An official spokesman said here today that the drive for attracting the budget tourists was particularly aimed at tourists coming through tour operators and travel agents.

The Karnal Cooperative Sugar Mills has been declared as India’s best cooperative sugar factory. It has bagged three prestigious awards for the season 2001-02 at national level. The prizes include Best Cooperative Sugar Factory in other recovery area, second prize for financial management in other recovery area and India’s Best Cooperative Sugar Factory.

Mr Sharad Yadav, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution, conferred the awards upon Karnal Sugar Mills at an award ceremony held at Delhi recently.

Mr Devender Singh, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of Sugar Mills, and Mr Lajvir Singh, Managing Director of the Mills, received the awards.

It is for the first time that a cooperative sugar mill of Haryana has bagged the awards of best Cooperative Sugar Factory in other recovery area and also of being India’s Best Cooperative Sugar Factory.

The performance of about 290 cooperative sugar mills was assessed by National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (New Delhi) in different parameters under the Head of Technical Efficiency, Cane Development and Financial Management. The performance was further screened by a national-level committee. The cooperative sugar mills for this purpose were divided into two zones, called high recovery area and other recovery area. Maharashtra, Karnataka and South Gujarat form part of the high recovery area whereas the rest of the states are in other recovery area. The mills securing highest marks in both areas was awarded the prestigious award of India’s Best Cooperative Sugar Factory. The Karnal Sugar Mills having secured 47.71 per cent marks over its nearest competitor “Indapur Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana of Maharashtra” which secured 46-87 per cent marks bagged the prestigious award of “India’s Best Cooperative Factory”.

The proposal of expansion of the existing plant to have a crush rate of 3500TCD with incidental co-generation is under consideration which will benefit the mills as well as the farmers of the area. The sugar mills also plans to take up a proposal with the state Sugarfed and the state government for setting up of a distillery plant with the Edhalon unit which would cost about Rs 20 crore.

The conversion of road from Meerut Chowk to Karnal Sugar Mills into four lanes under “Sarkar Apke Dwar Programme” is also likely to be completed by the second week of November and before the start of the crushing season. This will benefit the public in general and cane growers in particulars. In the ensuing crushing season, the mills plan to crush 40 lakh quintals of cane and to achieve 10 per cent recovery of sugar.

Plant to supply adequate power

The Haryana Power Generation Corporation will undertake works worth about Rs 4,000 crore in order to supply adequate power in the state.

This was revealed at a meeting held by the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, to review the working of the corporation here last evening. Works worth about Rs 2,000 crore were already under various stages of implementation. These included the seventh and eight units of the Panipat Thermal Plant, 250MW each; the Western Yamuna Canal Hydel Project-II comprising two units of 7.2 MW each, refurbishment of the second unit of the Panipat plant and renovation and modernisation of the Faridabad and Panipat plants.

During this year work will start on two units of 250 MW each of the Yamunanagar thermal plant.

The Chairperson of the Haryana power utilities, Mrs Meenaxi Anand Chaudhary, said the plant load factor of the thermal plants in the state had gone up to 70.84 per cent in comparison to 63.24 per cent during the corresponding period last year. The coal consumption had gone down to 779 gm/kwh till September last as against 789gm/kwh during the last year. The oil consumption had also gone down to 3.13 ml/lwh from 18 ml/kwh in 1996-97 and 3.29 ml/kwh during last year.

She said this reduction in coal and oil consumption saved Rs 107.61 crore and Rs 114.84, respectively, for the corporation.

Doc pays up for negligence

A private doctor of Charkhi Dadri town in the district had to pay Rs 74,250 to a patient for a wrong diagnosis and treatment on the direction of District Consumer Redressal Forum.

The appeals by the doctor to the state and national consumer redressal forums were turned down outrightly.

The complainant Mr Jage Ram (61) of Samar village Meham tehsil in Rohtak district, had submitted to the forum that he had to undergo surgery for his urinary problem by Dr R.C. Sharma at Dadri Hospital on June 7, 1993. During operation, continuous bleeding problem started and doctor opined that it was a symptom of blood cancer. The patient was advised to go for further tests. But later, doctor referred him to Medical College, Rohtak.

Jage Ram had to undergo surgery at Rohtak on July 10,1993 which remained unsuccessful and Dr R.C. Dahiya of Medical College, Rohtak, summoned the report of his biopsy done at Dadri Hospital. The doctor was surprised to know that Dr Sharma had not done biopsy test of Jage Ram. The patient had to be admitted from August 14 to September 17 for further operation.

The complainant had demanded Rs 2 lakh as compensation from the doctor for his negligence as he had to spend around Rs 1.25 lakh on his treatment. The forum had directed Dr Sharma to pay Rs 50,000 to Jage Ram by November 20,1998 otherwise, he had to pay the complainant 12 per cent interest on the amount.

Wakf board chief for reforms in madarsas

The new administrator of the Punjab Wakf Board, Dr M. Rahman, today said he would try to bring reform in madarsas.

Talking to mediapersons on the 42nd Foundation day of the Punjab Wakf Board, Dr Rahman stated that he would look into the type of education currently being imparted in madarsas. “We will try to bring about reform for the benefit of those studying in them, he said.

He said his priority would be to get back Wakf properties that had either been under dispute or encroached upon. “Regarding government occupation, we are going to sit across the table and discuss the matter,” he said.

Dr Rahman said stress needed to be laid on Information Technology. “I am keen that the expenditure by the board on education should go up to 25 per cent from the current 16 per cent,” he said. “Also, there is a need to reduce expenditure in areas like telephone bill,” he added.

Later, while delivering his presidential address, Dr Rahman urged officers and staff members of the board to rededicate themselves to work hard for making the board an ideal for others.

It was pointed out that among the 23 Wakf boards in the country, it was the only board that had achieved financial stability and self-reliance. “The board touched new heights in revenue generation by earning Rs 16.14 crore during the year 2001-02 in comparison with Rs 15.08 crore in 2000 -01,” an official said.

Addressing the gathering the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Syed Shahid Ali, siad Rs 3.87 crore were spent by the board on different welfare, education and development schemes.

The chief guest at the function was Mufti Fuzailur-Rahman Hilal Usmani. The function was attended by staff members posted in different areas of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

The Haryana Tourism has launched a special drive for attracting budget tourists and has made special economic packages for students.

An official spokesman said here today that the drive for attracting the budget tourists was particularly aimed at tourists coming through tour operators and travel agents. The special package for students was meant to hold birthday and kitty parties.

A roof-top restaurant had been started at the terrace of the Rang Mahal building in the Yadavindra Garden, Pinjore, which gave a full view of the garden. Authentic mughlai food prepared by a mughlai chef would be served at the restaurant, where the overall ambience would of a royal traditional fashion.

A package of Rs 2500 had also been introduced for a two-day-one-night stay in the Maharaja suite of Rang Mahal.

The local police has charged a person with defrauding the court by appearing in the court in place of his son in a drug case.

According to report, a chemist was charged under the drug Act for supplying spurious medicines.

An owner of wholesale supplier firm of Delhi, Sandeep Jain, was the main accused.

The court was reported by some sources that the main accused was not appearing in the court on dates of hearing and for the past two years his father D.C. Jain was deceiving the court. The court of Ms Shalini Singh took strict notice of the offence and ordered the police to arrest the father yesterday when the latter appeared in the court.

D.C. Jain a bail application in the court of Praveen Gupta here today which was rejected by the court and he was sent in judicial custody for 14 days.

He has been charged under Section 419 and 466 of Indian Penal Code and a case has been registered against him.

Man sentenced for wife’s murder

The District and Sessions Judge has sentenced Manoj Kumar, a local resident, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for killing his wife. Two other accused in this case have been acquitted.

According to information, Manoj Kumar was married to Shashi on January 18, 1999, and was accused by his in-laws of torturning their daughter for dowry. He allegedly had illicit relations with the wife of his brother, due to which he poisoned Shashi to death on June 14, 2001.The judge found Manoj guilty, while his brother and the latter’s wife were acquitted.

In another case of harassment for dowry, a local advocate, Sandeep Chaudhary, has been arrested on the complaint of his wife. He has gone on a hunger strike in prison. He has alleged that the police has falsely implicated him. Meanwhile, the Judicial Magistrate has sentenced Sukhvinder of Nakora village to one year of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 300 for possessing 200 kg of narcotics and six months of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 500 for selling liquor illegally at his roadside dhaba.

Strike by sanitation staff

On a call by the local Safai Karamchari Union, sanitation staff of the local municipal council today observed a strike in support of their demands. They are demanding regular payment of salaries, provident fund benefit and payment of dearness allowance since 1994.

Mr Mangal Singh Tank, secretary of the union said the sanitation staff had not been paid their salaries for the past two months.
