Medical camp by senior citizens

Chandigarh, September 26
A free medical camp organised by the Chandigarh Senior Citizens Association turned out to be a boon for 10 physically challenged children whose entire cost of treatment would now be borne by getting them treated at the Nevadic Prosthetic Centre, Zirakpur.

Over 300 people, most of them slum-dwellers and from rural areas, availed free medical services at the camp organised in the Karsan area of Ram Darbar here today. The chairman of the organising committee, Major-Gen M.S. Kandal, said that the fifth free medical camp organised today was held in collaboration with the Lions Club Chandigarh Greater.

He said that the physically handicapped children after being examined had been referred to Dr Vohra who would treat them and provide them with necessary calipers.

He informed that the patients were examined by Dr M.L. Kataria and his medical team.

GCG-11 clinch softball title

Chandigarh, September 26
The Government College for Girls, Sector 11, emerged winners in the Panjab University Inter-College Softball (women) Championship played here today. The second place went to Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Chandigarh, while third and fourth place went to Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana, and the MCM DAV College for women, Chandigarh respectively.

The results of the matches played today are: MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, b GGS College for Women, Chandigarh, 8-7; GGS College for Women, Chandigarh, b Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana, 7-2; and Government College for Girls, Sector 11, beat MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, 8-6.

In the PU Inter College Kabaddi (women) Tournament, GCG-11 beat GGS Khalsa College for Women, Kamalpur, by 23 points, GTB Khalsa College for Women, Dasuya, defeated SBBS Memorial Girls College, Sukhanand, by 37 points, and MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, b SGG Janta Girls College, Raikot, by 60 points.

SPS-44, GMSSS-22 in semis

Sanjay Public School, Sector 44, and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, made it to the last four of the Chandigarh Junior Boys Football Championship which entered the second day here today at the Sector-17 Football Stadium. No team could score any goal till the half time.

In the second quarterfinal tie, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, got the better of Shishu Niketan Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, by 2-1. Half time score was 1-1.

Tomorrow, both the semi-finals will be played with first match between Sanjay Public school, Sector 44, and GMSSS-22 at 10 a.m. followed by second semi-final to be played between Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, and Saint Soldier International Public School, Sector 22, at 11.30 am.

CHA boys win

Chandigarh Hockey Academy boys clinched the under-15 Inter-School Pre- Nehru Hockey Tournament played here today. In the final, they overpowered St Stephen’s-45 by 4-0. In the under-17 section, Sanjay Public School, Sector 44, would meet Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, in the final to be played tomorrow.

Selection trials

The Panchkula District Cricket Association will held the selection trials to select the Panchkula District Cricket Team for the Pataudi Trophy, tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Hansraj Public School, Sector 6, Panchkula. This was stated by Mr Sandeep Moudgil, secretary of the association. Panchkula will play against Chandigarh at Panchkula on September 30.
