Chautala invites Opposition for debate
Our Correspondent

Yamunanagar, February 11
The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, today again invited the leaders of opposition parties for a debate on the issue of developmental works undertaken by them in Haryana when they were in power.

Mr Chautala was addressing a public meeting here in favour of the candidate of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Dr Malik Chand Gambhir, contesting by-election from here.

He said there should be an open debate on developmental works so that everybody might know the factual position on the issue of development.

Mr Chautala criticised the Congress for allegedly misleading the people by making false promises.

He criticised former Chief Ministers, Mr Bansi Lal and Mr Bhajan Lal, for not taking any interest in the development of the state. He said the traders were badly affected during their tenure, industrial units had started shifting from the state and there was no law and order.

He said it was unfortunate that those who ruled the state for a long period failed to provide even basic amenities to the people.

He claimed that work on all 15,600 announcements made by him under the first phase of “Sarkar Aapke Dwar” programme had been completed. Work was in progress to implement 17,800 announcements made by him during the second phase of the programme.

The former Haryana minister, Mr Rajesh Sharma, criticised Mr Sitaram Kesari for decline in the image of Congress at the national level and Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda at the state level. He said he wanted to make Tejli sports complex in Yamunanagar district as one of the best in the world and he had got this project initiated but the former minister, Mrs Kamla Verma, did not take any interest.

He said now the Tejli complex would be completed as a result of the progressive policies of Mr Chautala and President of Haryana Olympic Association, Mr Abhey Singh Chautala.

He also addressed election meetings at local Model Colony and Patalpuri, here last night. He said the INLD government was determined to provide basic civic amenities without any discrimination in the state.

He said the people of Yamunanagar were well acquainted that during the past two-and-a-half years a lot of developmental work had been undertaken. He promised that he would do so much developmental work in the state in general and Yamunanagar in particular that people would forget the name of the Congress in the coming days.

He said he was committed to make Haryana number one state of the country which was the dream of late Chaudhry Devi Lal, he said.

The INLD got a boost in its electioneering when Mr Sushil Jain, an independent candidate in the by-election extended his full support to Dr Malik Chand Gambhir. He along with his hundreds of supporters expressed their full faith in the leadership of Mr Chautala and assured that they would leave no stone unturned to ensure the victory of Dr Gambhir.

Earlier, Mr Rajesh Sharma, former Minister and a senior Congress leader of Haryana had joined the INLD expressing faith in the leadership of Mr Chautala.

Mr Hussan Lal, vice president, Harijan Cell of the Haryana BJP and Mr Mohinder Mittal, a senior office-bearer of the Beopar Mandal, Haryana, also joined the INLD with a large number of their supporters.

Mr Chautala said global tenders for the construction of the thermal plant here had been invited and expressed the hope that it would be constructed soon.

Mr Chautala assured the people that his government was determined to ensure free and fair election because it had full faith in democracy.

BJP uninterested in development: minister
Our Correspondent

Yamunanagar, February 11
“The anti-development attitude of the BJP has been revealed by its leaders who have requested the Election Commission to stop development works being carried out by the government. This shows that the state BJP is not interested in the all- round development of Yamunanagar Constituency,” Mr Ashok Arora, Transport Minister and election in charge of the INLD said here yesterday.

He said the Congress and the BJP had been winning elections for the past 35 years but had not evinced interest in development activities here. However, the INLD government has undertaken many development works in this constituency during the past two-and-a-half years. Work has been undertaken on several roads, streets, pavements, school buildings, and dharamshalas. The BJP and the Congress which have done nothing in the service of the people of this area are spreading rumours duping these works as election stunt, he said.

Mr Arora claimed that Mr Om Prakash Chautala after initiating ‘sarkar aapke dwar’ invited the then MLA, Dr J.P. Sharma, to join him in solving the problems of comman man. However, he did not respond favourably and the Chief Minister undertook three tours of the district listening and redressing grievances of the people, he claimed.
