DHBVN floats conversion scheme Hisar, September 25 A Nigam spokesman said here yesterday that due to a large number of pending applications for tubewell connections under the agriculture category, several consumers had obtained connections under the LT industrial (SP) category. Since most such connections were practically being used for agriculture purposes, it was decided to convert connections. He said that under this scheme, all those consumers, who had obtained horticulture connections before August 27, 2000 and were using it for agriculture, would be allowed to convert their connections into the agriculture category, if they deposited the entire principal defaulting amount by October 15. All surcharges of such consumers would also be waived by the Nigam. However, this scheme was applicable only to those who had obtained horticulture connections ignoring other connections, which had been obtained under the same tariff. He said that the consumer desiring such conversion could apply with a written application to the Sub-Divisional Officer concerned on or before October 15. Meanwhile, the Nigam has received overwhelming response to its scheme to regularise ‘kundi’ connection in the rural areas. Claiming this, a spokesman for the Nigam said here that more than 3000 connections had been regularised under this scheme during the past three weeks. The Nigam officials had selected 116 villages of Hisar, Fatehabad, Sirsa, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Mahenderagarh and Rewari districts for the first phase of the scheme. The officials organised a special campaign in 85 villages of these districts and about 3200 persons applied for regular connections. The officials sanctioned most of the connections on the spot. |

BRIG SATYA DEV CASE Chandigarh, September 25 Brig Satya Dev is a close relative of the Haryana Congress president, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda. He was appointed the Secretary of the Rajya Sainik Board when Mr Bansi Lal was the Chief Minister. However, his services were terminated after Mr Om Prakash Chautala took over the reins of power in Haryana. The officer challenged his termination before the high court and impleaded Mr Chautala as a party in person, levelling allegations of mala fide against him. The petitioner alleged that his services had been terminated out of political vindictiveness because Mr Chautala’s father, the late Devi Lal, was defeated by Mr Hooda from the Rohtak Lok Sabha constituency thrice. The high court set aside the termination on the ground that these orders had been passed “without any application of mind”. The court also made critical references to the handling of the whole issue by the state authorities, including the Chief Minister’s staff. |
