Seven hurt in attack over land dispute
Barwala (Panchkula), June 27
Seven persons of a family, including two women, were injured, three of them seriously, when a fellow villager, accompanied by 35 armed persons, fired upon them in Bharelie village, located on the Barwala-Lalru link road about 3 km from here, this morning.

Four of family hospitalised with burns
Chandigarh, June 27
Four members of a family sustained burn injuries, when the head of the family attempted immolation at their residence in Sector 35 this afternoon. His wife and two children also sustained injuries when they tried to save him.

RPFC direction to employers

With an amendment to the Provident Fund rules, employers are now liable to deduct contributions in respect of the Employees’ Provident Fund and Pension Scheme up to a limit of Rs 6,500 instead of Rs 5,000.

Ms Rupinder Kaur, a married woman of Mundi Kharar village who was missing from her house since June 14, was traced by the local police in Baroda. The police party had returned here today.

Rs 1 lakh snatched from man
Chandigarh, June 27
A sum of Rs 1 lakh was snatched from a man in Sector 22 here yesterday. According to an FIR registered under Sections 356 and 379 of the IPC, Suraj, a resident of Kala Amb, reported that two men on a motor cycle snatched his purse containing the money while he was going on a rickshaw from Sector 34 to the ISBT, Sector 17.

‘Entrance tests to blame for low attendance’

Entrance examinations for professional courses are the main reason why students are not taking interest in regular classes. This was pointed out by Prof G.S. Gosal, a former Dean of the College Development Council, Panjab University, at the ongoing discussions on problems of college administration here today. 

PU extends last date to July 5
Chandigarh, June 27
Panjab University has extended the last date for submission of forms for the first year of B.Com, BBA and BCA courses from June 25 to July 5. A decision in this regard was taken by a senior-level committee which met here today. The proposal has been forwarded to the Vice-Chancellor for final approval.

Estate Office issues notice to lawyers

The UT Estate Officer has issued a notice to a number of lawyers to vacate chambers in the District Courts Complex. The notice has been issued to those lawyers, who have not vacated the chambers despite the fact that these have already been allotted to other lawyers in three different phases of allotment by the Estate Office.

A married woman of Kandala village under Kharar block, who was allegedly raped by a doctor at a camp organised in Jheurheri village on June 24, recorded her statement under Section 164 before Ms Harinder Sidhu, Judicial Magistrate Kharar today.

The Indian Medical Association President, Dr G.S. Kochchar, confirmed today that only gynaecologists having the facility of ultrasound would have to get themselves registered with the UT Health Department.

22 children attending tennis camp

The Future Kids Coaching Camp-cum-Tournament for budding tennis players of the country as envisaged by the All-India Tennis Association entered the second day today with 22 boys, including five girls, flexing their muscles at the tennis stadium, Sector 10.

City to host National Roller Hockey Camp

The second phase of the National Roller Hockey Camp in both men and women sections will be held from July 26 at Chandigarh. This was stated by Mr Inder Pal Singh, Advisor to the President of the Roller Skating Federation of India.
