Govt may scrap privatisation of civic services
MC disheartened over move

The recent government announcement that the policy of privatisation of civic services was being reviewed and would be scrapped, in all probability, has come as a big blow to the big brass of the Municipal Corporation here, who have been pushing, with all their might, the privatisation of most of the civic services, including sanitation, operation of maintenance of tubewells for water supply, street lights and maintenance of parks.

The Punjab Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, is understood to have offered land of the open jail at Nabha to Punjab Agricultural University for carrying out a research and seed multiplication programme.

An undertrial prisoner at the Central Jail alleged in the court of Duty Magistrate Balwinder Kumar here today that certain other undertrial prisoners and a constable of the jail police beat him up on June 21 in the prison cell.

SAD(A) reacts to Badal’s remarks

The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amrtisar) has taken strong exception to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s remarks that the SAD(A) was a symbol of militancy and has served an ultimatum on Mr Badal to withdraw the remarks within seven days, failing which a defamation suit will be filed against him.

Sewerage cleaning proves nightmarish for shopkeepers

A choked sewerage line and subsequent exercise to clear it, right in front of the Calibre Plaza in the Bhadaur House Commercial Complex, proved to be a nightmare for the shopkeepers in the vicinity here today, as the unimaginative method of clearing the choked line by the O & M staff of the Municipal Corporation, made the matters worse.

9 centres for B.Ed entrance test

Nine city colleges will be hosting B.Ed entrance test to be conducted by Punjabi University on July 1. These include Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, Guru Nanak Girls’ College, Model Town, Sanatan Dharam Pracharak College, Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women, Kidwai Nagar, Government College for Women, Khalsa College for Women, Arya College for Boys, Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women and SCD Government College.

Sacked employee told to return money

The Punjab Agricultural University has asked a former junior assistant of its estate office to return its embezzled money, failing which, the PAU will file a civil suit against him.

BCA final-year results
Ludhiana, June 27
Pawanjit K. Bathla from Khalsa College for Women and Maninder Kaur from Ramgarhia Girls’ College have stood first in the district scoring 1,878 marks out of the total 2,400 marks in the BCA final year examination conducted by Panjab University this year.

1,735 candidates appear in CET
Ludhiana, June 27
As many as 1,735 students from all over the state appeared in the Common Entrance Test conducted by Punjab Agricultural University, for admission to B.Sc (agriculture) and bachelor in veterinary sciences, here yesterday.
