Taoru MC to be restored: CM Chapeda (Taoru), May 25 Mr Chautala announced the restoration of the municipality during the government’s “aap ke sarkar, aap ke dwar” programme here. The municipality, along with others in some parts of the Haryana, had been abolished here by the state government,a few months ago. The decision to restore the municipality followed pressure from political leaders and residents of the area. Mr Chautala publicly expressed his distrust for the Engineering Department and its staff and said the money for development given by the government for implementation of the schemes in the villages would now be directly routed through the panchayats. The panchayats and the village committees can spend the money without any approval or involvement of the Engineering Department. He said the involvement of the engineering department not only injected an element of delays in the implementation of the schemes, but also led to embezzlement of two-thirds of the funds. He elaborated his empirical finding saying that the panchayat could construct a building at a lesser rate than the Engineering Department and much quicker. His statement embarrassed officers present on the occasion. The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s resolve to remove encroachments in the villages and in the towns. He, however, held out concessions for those houses which had been built on the panchayat or government
land. The owner of these houses could pay the dues to the government or the panchayat, as the case may
be, to get the structure regularised. The Deputy Commissioner will be the head of the committee involved in the process. In all 142 village panchayats of Taoru and Nuh blocks in Gurgaon district and Hathin in Faridabad district made representations about their grievances to the Chief Minister. Incidentally all blocks fall in the Mewat area of Gurgaon and Faridabad districts. Mr Chautala cautioned that the development funds will not be released for the villages which do not pay the electricity
dues. The panchayats concerned will have to get a clean chit on the issue for availing the development fund of the state. The government announced a number of potable water schemes. It raised the supply of optimum supply from 40 litre per person to 70. It also announced the expeditious setting up of the proposed bus stand near bypass in

Water-borne diseases hit Tohana Fatehabad. May 25 The state Health Department and the Public Health Department have been trying to shift the responsibility on each other but nothing
concrete has been done by any of the two departments in this direction. The district administration has now taken steps in this regard by banning the sale of ice candies and cut fruits and vegetables. A survey of Tohana revealed that persons suffering from typhoid and viral fever were present in almost all households. Many have been admitted to the general hospital, besides private hospitals and nursing homes. Doctors say that in most cases the serum test has clearly shown that these patients suffer from enteric fever. In many other cases where the blood samples have tested negatives, doctors have diagnosed the patients as suffering from viral fever. Doctors attending these patients told this correspondent that while the viral fever was due to an unidentified virus, the enteric fever was due to the consumption of contaminated drinking water in the town. Residents lament that they have been complaining about the supply of contaminated drinking water for the pastmany months but the authorities concerned have done little to solve the problem. While the health authorities claim that the supply of contaminated drinking water is the main reason behind the spread of typhoid and viral diseases, the Public Health Department refutes the claim. Mr Kamal Kishore Sharma, Subdivisional Engineer, Public Health
Department, Tohana, denied that contaminated water was being supplied in the town. He said potable water was being supplied after chlorination. He claimed that his department had been getting the water samples in the town tested from time to time and all these had been found fit for human consumption. Meanwhile, the District Magistrate, Mr O.P. Indora, has banned the sales of ice candies and cut fruits and vegetables in the district with immediate effect. In his order issued here yesterday, Mr Indora authorised the officers concerned to take suitable action to stop the sale of such commodities. |

Procurement of new
arrivals stopped Faridabad, May 25 While this has sent a wave of anxiety and uncertainty among farmers, the district authorities have reportedly ordered the clearance of wheat lying in the mandis before the purchase of fresh wheat arrivals could be started. The agencies have already purchased over thrice the total wheat procured last year but the authorities and mandi officials are finding it difficult to lift and store wheat lying in the mandis. It is learnt that all available space in godowns of various agencies, including the FCI and the State Warehousing Corporation, has already been occupied and there is hardly any space for more stocks. While lakhs of quintals of wheat have been lying in the open, the agencies have not been able to provide covered shelters to a large amount of purchased wheat. Thousands of gunny bags of wheat are reportedly facing threat from inclement weather. One such open storage for wheat is in Sector 16. Where several bags of wheat are lying in the open. The alleged failure of the authorities to lift the wheat from mandis has not only annoyed the farmers but also arhtiyas. At some mandis, including those at Hodal and Palwal, they have been on strike for over a week in protest against the delay in the lifting of wheat. The district food and supplies authorities have also “suspended” licences of some arhtiyas in the district on charges of irregularities. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr. S.C. Jain, has directed officials concerned to clear the wheat stocks from the mandis so that fresh procurement could be undertaken. He said steps were being taken to deal with the shortage of gunny bags. The total procurement of wheat this season is likely to touch five lakh tonnes in comparison to 1.75 lakh tonnes last year. |
Farmers protest against non-purchase of wheat Sonepat, May 25 Mr Rajinder Singh, Tehsildar-cum-Executive Magistrate, along with Mr Kuldeep Singh, DSP, Gohana, arrived on the scene and assured the farmers that the purchases of wheat would continue as usual. Several farmers alleged that officials of the procurement agencies were harassing them on some pretext or the other and not buying their produce despite assurances from the SDM. Meanwhile, resentment prevails among the farmers of Ganaur sub division against the stoppage of wheat procurement. They also approached the authorities concerned with the help of INLD leaders on the issue but they declined to restart the purchases on account of shortage of gunny bags. According to official sources, the district administration has already stopped buying wheat in 19 purchasing centres of this district. |
