Now, HJC to flex its muscles at Hisar on December 1
Chandigarh,November 13 In fact, the HJC rally in its traditional bastion of Hisar will prove to be a grand finale to the nearly two-month-long “vijay yatra” undertaken by its president and Hisar MP Kuldip Bishnoi across the state. Besides, it would mark the HJC foundation day (December 2) celebrations and showcase its support base among the electorate, particularly non-Jat voters. Bishnoi told The Tribune that the December 1 rally would be one of the biggest rallies with the rally ground covering around 150 acres. The rally venue had been shifted from the four-acre Mahavir Stadium to an open ground to accommodate more people, Bishnoi said, adding that there was a lot of resentment among people against the Hooda Government’s various acts of omission and commission. With speculation about the possible INLD-BJP tie-up doing the rounds in the backdrop of the presence of senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi at the INLD’s November 1 Kurukshtra rally, the HJC would try to put this to rest. Since senior BJP leaders are expected to attend the December 1 rally, the HJC would use the occasion to put to rest the speculations about the breakdown of its ties with the BJP, sources said. The BJP kickstarted the trend of mega rallies ahead of next year’s parliamentary and assembly elections by inviting its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to a mega rally on September 15. This was followed by the INLD at Kurukshetra on November 1. The ruling Congress responded with a big rally at Gohana on November 10 where Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda tried to woo a cross-section of society through populist announcements. |
Corrupt to be jailed if HJC-BJP comes to power: Bishnoi
Jhajjar, November 13 He was addressing a public meeting at Shaheedi Park in Bahadurgarh town during his ‘Rath-Yatra’ programme yesterday. He said leaders of both parties had been found indulging in corrupt practices. “While INLD supremo and former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala and his son, Ajay Chautala, have been serving jail sentence in the JBT recruitment scam, several Congress leaders are lodged in jails for their involvement in heinous crime and corrupt practices,” said Bishnoi. Congress and INLD leaders should, therefore, restrain themselves from levelling false allegations of corruption against other party leaders. The HJC supremo said every section of society was so fed up with the functioning of the Congress-led state government that pre-poll bounty announced by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda at the Gohana rally could not prevent the Congress' ouster from power in the coming poll. |
Rs 45-lakh rice mill funds misappropriated
Kaithal, November 13 The police sources said Jai Bhagwan Bansal and Poonam Garg, wife of Sushil Garg of Kaithal, were doing business of rice milling and trading under the firm named M/s Vardan Exports, Shergarh Road, Kaithal. They used a car owned by Sushil to make recovery of arrears for the firm. While reconciling accounts for the year, the partners noticed discrepancies to the tune of Rs 12. 65 lakh, which later rose to Rs 44. 65. lakh. The partners persuaded the two employees to return the money allegedly misappropriated by them and the car, which was in their possession. The duo refused to budge and allegedly threatened the partners with dire consequences, following which they lodged a complaint with the police. The civil lines police arrested the munshi and recovered cash and the car from him. |

I want to become a doctor, asserts rape victim
Gurgaon, November 13 In May this year, the youth, Sunil of Badshahpur Taithad village in Gurgaon district, took her to an isolated place after her school was over and allegedly raped her. After that, he took her to a nearby village, where he held her captive for about three days and allegedly repeatedly raped her. "We searched for Roshni everywhere but to no avail. Finally, we lodged a complaint with the police, stating that she had gone missing. The police found her at a nearby village in a battered condition. We then lodged an FIR with the police," recounted her father here. Roshni's shattered parents did not know that their ordeal had actually started from that point. Soon after the registration of the FIR, the family started getting social pressure from various quarters to withdraw its complaint. However, they decided to carry their case forward. Then came another blow. As Roshni's parents approached her school to get a proof of her date of birth, the school authorities handed over her school-leaving certificate to them. Allegedly under pressure from some prominent members of the village community, thegovernment school authorities refused to let the girl continue her studies there. Not only this, Roshni was denied admission to another government school, about 15 km from her village. Then, the support cell for rape victims at KD Singh Foundation, which had adopted Roshni, persuaded the authorities and got her admitted to the school. She is among the 113 rape survivors from 17-odd districts of Haryana and Delhi-NCR adopted by the foundation, which provides three-tiered medical, legal and rehabilitation support to rape survivors. It also operates a 24x7 toll-free helpline (No. 1800-200-2056) to support the rape victims and their families in Haryana and Delhi-NCR. Roshni told this correspondent that she now wanted to become a doctor. "When I grow up, I will also aid and support other rape survivors and try to give a healing touch to their lives," she maintained. While Roshni's spirit and comeback to life is appreciable, she has a long way to go with the court case still on and her family under constant pressure to withdraw the case or be prepared to face dire consequences. Nonetheless, she and her parents have faith in the judicial system as well as volunteers at the KD Singh foundation."It is chiefly due to support from the foundation that we have been able to survive the nightmare and withstand social pressure," says Roshni's father. |
Roadways staff strike throws life out of gear
Chandigarh, November 13 With bus services crippled, passengers arriving at local bus stands had to turn to private taxi, bus and maxi-cab operators, who cashed in on the opportunity, doubled rates and made a quick buck. Roadways buses at 23 depots and 15 sub-depots were not likely to ply tomorrow as well since the union had given a two-day strike call. The call evoked a mixed response from employees of other departments. Other services, including power and water supply, were partially affected in various districts. Police deployment around supply stations was stepped up to minimise inconvenience to the public. Most of the staff at the Secretariat in Chandigarh was present in full strength. Power complaint centres, divisions and subdivisions, 43 tourist complexes and field offices were deserted as the staff joined the strike. The general secretary of the sangh said members of 108 unions associated with the federation and the Haryana Karamchari Mahasangh observed the strike. “The secretariat staff union had extended support to us, but had decided to attend duty. We will intensify protests in the coming weeks if the government continues to be indifferent to our demands,” he said. The sangh is demanding regularisation of part-time and contractual employees who have completed two years of service, rollback of attempt to privatise Haryana Roadways, stalling the issuing of 3,500 private route permits, cashless medical facilities for state employees, declaring of aanganwari, mid-day meal and ASHA workers as government employees, suspension of the move to privatise various departments and 5 per cent plot quota for Haryana Urban Development Authority employees. The Principal Secretary, Haryana Transport Department, RR Jowel, urged employees of Haryana Roadways to call off the strike and said it was not justified as permits being given for private buses was not an issue. “Deregulation has become the norm and permits are being given to provide better transport facilities. There are 4000 buses in the Haryana Roadways fleet which will be increased in the future. In view of the strike, alternative arrangements like drivers, conductors and others are being made and legal action will be taken against those not abiding by law,” he said. Chief Secretary PK Chaudhery appealed to the employees to rejoin their duties and desist from causing inconvenience to the public by disrupting services. sirsa Strike peaceful

Dinesh claimed that he got stuck at Sonepat as he failed to find a bus to Rohtak. He added that he had shell out almost double the fare to take a private vehicle to reach here. All-Haryana Roadways Workers Union president Rajpal said, "Privatisation of Haryana Roadways is no solution. Unions will resist any move to privatise state transport and attempts to dilute its character will be thwarted." INTUC leader Subash Mann said the move to give private route permits was uncalled for and unjustified as there was no need to bring in private operators. Preventive steps
Faridabad: Except for Haryana Roadways, the strike in government departments was partial on Wednesday. The authorities took preventive measures to ensure normal supply of essential services like water and electricity.
