Pummelled by Phailin but refusing to be swept off by its fury, the unprecedented rescue and evacuation spread across the vast East Coast faces a fresh challenge as incessant rains triggered floods and marooned 2.5 lakh people in Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts of Odisha.

The injured BSF constable being shifted to a hospital in Jammu. A BSF constable was injured in sniper fire by Pakistan Rangers, who also opened heavy fire today on at least two Indian forward posts in Samba sector along the 191.5-km-long international border.

Deadly dengue: Region feels the sting
954 patients in Punjab; Ludhiana, Patiala worst-hit
Chandigarh, October 14
Dengue is spreading its tentacles in Punjab. More than 500 cases of dengue have been confirmed by the state health department after the monsoon receded in mid-September. On an average, about 16 confirmed cases of dengue are being reported from the various parts of the state daily.
710 cases put Haryana Govt in tizzy
Chandigarh, October 14
Two deaths, 710 cases and still counting - dengue count is getting bigger in Haryana. Hospitals all over the state are flooded with patients reporting with fever. The recent spells of rain have compounded the problem of the Health Department in tackling mosquito-breeding while exposing poor sanitation in some of Haryana’s most urbanised cities.
