Dept puts DEO on notice over teachers’ transfers

District Education Officer (Secondary) Paramjit Kaur Chahal was served a show-cause notice by the department today following alleged discrepancies in the list of inter-district transfers sought by teachers, which was sent by the officer. She has been asked to reply to the notice within 10 days.

CII, admn join hands to curb road accidents

As many as 147 lives were lost in about 200 fatal accidents in the industrial hub of Ludhiana from January to June. To check the rising number of road accidents in the district, representatives from the Confederation of Indian Industries, hospitals, the district administration and the police have come forward on a joint platform to find viable solutions.

Aadhaar card enrolment to start soon at Suvidha Centre

The enrolment of Aadhaar cards would start at Suvidha Centre, BDO office, in about 15 days. This was said by DC Rahul
Tewari. "We are prepared to start the enrolment but a code from the UID authority for enrolment machines is awaited,” he said. “Enrolment will start once that code for the enrolment is received,” he said.

Teachers of aided-colleges without salary for year

Over 1,000 teachers working in the aided-colleges in Punjab have not received their salaries for the past 12 months. Thanks to the dilly-dallying approach of the authorities in releasing the grants to colleges. Besides, over 2,000 teachers working in these colleges are without the salaries for the last nine months.
Student union leader, aides injured in attack

Student politics took an ugly turn when a union leader and his two aides were attacked by armed assailants from the Student Organisation of India (SOI) today.
The incident took place outside a government college this morning when nearly 20 assailants carrying swords and sharp edged weapons intercepted Amanpreet Singh Khangura and his two aides.

Dues pending, preparations on for next kabaddi cup

The lackadaisical approach adopted by the Sports Department is to blame for the non-clearance of the dues, as even after sending all the bills about eight months ago, the payment of about Rs 1 crore has not been released to the contractor till date.
