No insurance cover for the saviours
Dehradun, July 29 Baring the group insurance, they have no cover against the risks that they are now encountering in the Kedarnath valley and Uttarkashi. For the past several years, it has been a routine affair that government doctors are sent on Char Dham duties to strengthen medical facilities for the pilgrims, but the calamitous events of the last month have left several doctors shaking. Two medical officers deployed at the medical relief post at Rambara and at the State Allopaethic Dispensary(SAD) at Kedarnath had a harrowing time as they battled the floods and spent two days in forests without food and water. “Almost all doctors from Dehradun have given duties in the disaster-affected areas of the state. These doctors and other staff left for their duties at a very short notice, especially those who were entursted with the task of collecting DNA samples. They are working in an inhospitable environment which is not a routine duty and therefore they should be provided insurance covers,” said Dr BC Ramola, President of the Provincial Medical and Health Services. Under the Disaster Management Act, the Department of Health is the key department whose services have to be availed immediately after the natural calamity. Interestingly, all staff working under the Disaster Mitigation and Management Centre, which is an autonomous institute under the aegis of the Department of Disaster Management, are provided an insurance cover. While the health sector continues to be the second largest employer in the state, the present low salary structures for health professionals compared to other civil servants, recruitment delays and poor working conditions have resulted in a shortage of staff and low morale among them. Now duties in the disaster-hit areas have left health professionals worried and clamouring for an insurance cover. “The Kedarnath area has become inhospitable. All doctors deployed in different health facilities in Dehradun have done their duties but it would ease our worries if there was an insurance cover,” said Dr NS Napalchayal. |

After opening the door, he went inside and found his brother tied and gagged in one room while the deceased was lying murdered in the adjacent room. According to Saleem, when he and his wife were sleeping in the room at around 2 am five persons barged into the house. They attacked and gagged him in one room, while they murdered his wife who opposed them in another room. The intruders looted the house and took away cash and jewellery of his wife along with other valuables. On interrogation, Saleem confessed that he had murdered his wife with the help of his brother. Ensure expectant mothers reach hospital in time: Minister to CMOs
Dehradun, July 29 The orders have come after there were reports of pregnant women losing their lives after failing to reach hospitals in time due to poor road connectivity. “Despite the department keeping a watch over expectant mothers, there have been reports of miscarriages due to lack of medical assistance. Statehood agitators seek due accreditation
Haridwar, July 29 A decade ago these people were on streets, agitating, going to prison, demanding separate state. Now they are demanding due credit from the state government. Haridwar and Roorkee Uttarakhand Rajya Andolankari Sangarsh Samiti has been actively carrying out protests, agitations and meetings to pressurise the state government to speed up the statehood agitators’ identification process. Free course books for over 100 students from disaster-hit areas
Mussoorie, July 29 The trust members felicitated ex-serviceman Jagdish Lekhwar for saving lives of many villagers during the disaster that struck at village Parodi near Thatyur a month ago. Jagdish Lekhwar, acting swiftly on the fateful night, provided shelter to the villagers in his house, thus saving their lives. The director of the trust, eminent social and health activist Sunil Sanon, speaking on the occasion, said that due to the disaster that occurred in the region a month back the government and many NGOs were competing for providing relief but none thought about the students who lost their school books and stationary in the disaster which were either buried in the debris or swept away in the flash floods in and around villages such as Parodi. Sanon demanded that the government should also provide course books and stationary to the students affected due to the recent disaster that struck the state. Sanon also questioned the anomaly prevalent in distribution of the course books in the government schools and said that the government had kept education free till class VII by providing free books but has not continued the practice for the students of class IX, which raises the question how the same students do not qualify for the benefits in class IX in all government schools. He demanded that free books should be provided to class X
students also. Satendar Sandhu, Venu Sanon, Laurity, Sumit Lehwar, Hitesh Bisht and others were present on
the occasion. |
