100 Yamunanagar villages flooded
Vital bridge washed away; 40 villages cut off from main land Sudden rise in Yamuna level 
Yamunanagar, July 20
Persistent rain in the catchment areas of seasonal rivers Somb and Pathrala has led to flooding of cultivable areas in over 100 villages of Yamunanagar district, district administration officials said. Residential buildings in low-lying areas of Bilaspur and Sadhaura segments have also been flooded.

Gurgaon CJM booked for wife’s death
Gurgaon, July 20
The police today booked Gurgaon Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Ravneet Garg and his family for the alleged harassment and death of his wife Geetanjali. Garg and his parents were booked under penal provisions for murder and common intent in the FIR lodged in the early hours of Saturday.

Cong stalwarts to train state-level spokespersons
Workshop begins from Monday
New Delhi, July 20
With eye on elections, the ruling Congress has decided to impart special training to its state-level spokespersons in communications and media strategy. Around 225 delegates from across India, including those from the Youth Congress and National Students Union of India (NSUI), will gather in New Delhi for two days from Monday to attend lectures on topics like “dos and don’ts on the electronic media” and “how to prepare for an effective debate”.

Six get life term in Swiss woman’s gang-rape case
Datia (MP), July 20
Four months after a Swiss tourist was robbed and gangraped, a fast-track court in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh today awarded life imprisonment to all the six convicts in the case. Pronouncing the judgment, Additional District Judge Jitendra Sharma also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of the convicts.

Report confirms pesticide in meal
Patna, July 20
A forensic report today confirmed the presence of a poisonous pesticide in the midday meal served to the students of the Chhapra school where 23 children died after taking the contaminated food.

Ramban killings: Protests continue in Valley
Srinagar, July 20
The Valley remained shut for the second day today against the killing of four civilians by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Ramban district earlier this week. Markets, shops, colleges, universities and banks remained closed across the region, which remains tense since Thursday’s killings. The authorities imposed restrictions across Kashmir and many roads, including those in the Lal Chowk, Jehangir Chowk and Batamaloo areas in the central city, were blocked with Concertina wires.
