UPLIFT OF DALIT COMMUNITY Sushil Manav Tribune News Service
Ratia (Fatehabad), July 4 In a recent state-level convention of Dhanak community in Ratia, Chautala had accused the Congress of keeping Dalits backward and away from quality education. The INLD leader had also alleged that the Congress had done nothing for the welfare of the Dalit community. In a press conference at Ratia, Jarnail Singh, who himself is a Dalit, claimed that whatever had been done for the Dalits in the country so far, it was due to the policies of the Congress. “The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) has come as a lifeline for the Dalits, as those who were starving for want of money were getting two square meals for their children comfortably,” said Jarnail Singh. He ridiculed Abhey Singh Chautala’s statement that scholarships given to Dalit children were keeping them away from quality education. “Bhupinder Singh Hooda government’s policy of providing scholarship to Dalit children, who were earlier away from schools, has attracted them towards education,” he said. He alleged that the opposition parties, particularly the INLD, were in the habit of criticising whatever the government did. “I have been with the INLD, too, and I know what kind of a attitude Chautalas have towards the Dalits,” the Haryana Agro Industries Chairman said. Jarnail Singh claimed that most of the Rs 300-crore development projects that Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had announced for Ratia had either been completed or are in the process. He said after Hooda’s announcement, the status of the Community Health Centre, Ratia, had been elevated to General Hospital and the government had already started sending additional staff for the hospital. Bhawani Singh, a leader of Bhakhra Oustee families living in villages coming under Jarnail Singh’s assembly segment, said that Ratia has witnessed unprecedented development ever since the Congress has won a byelection from there. |

On pretext of holding auditions, cheats defraud youth, hotel
Rewari, July 4 This high-class trickery began on June 27 when Chadha, apparently a self-styled executive of a film production company, telephonically asked Rohan Singh, manager of the Golden Huts, a hotel on NH 8 here, near Dharuhera, to book some rooms in his hotel for the company’s administrative directors. Thus a team of four persons, including two women, occupied those rooms in the hotel by evening. At the behest of the hotel manager, they revealed their identity as Vipin Sharma and his wife, both residents of Bhiwani (Haryana), Guarav Kumar of Kaithal and Gunjan Dixit of Uttar Pradesh. The following day, they telephonically contacted Tarun Sharma, a director of DJ festivities in Rewari, who arranged for them over a dozen youths, including an equal number of young girls, at their behest. Next morning, Tarun Sharma, along with the youths, reached the hotel where they were made to stay in rooms which were got reserved for them through the party’s chief. While the youths were eagerly waiting for the commencement of the audition programme, Vipin Sharma and his colleague got their mobile phones switched off and put them, along with the youths’ two lap tops, into a bag. Soon afterwards while the two women were sent in a taxi that was arranged by the hotel manager to Gurgaon to bring their cameras for the audition, some time later Vipin and Gaurav, too stealthily, sped away in a car, owned by one of the youths, towards Gurgaon on the pretext of fetching dresses for the youths which they would have to wear
during audition. Simultaneously while the duo left the place without paying the hotel bills amounting to over Rs 80,000, they also took away with them the bag which contained 12 mobile phones and two lap tops of the youths. The car, which belonged to one of the youths, was abandoned by the duo at a place near the Metro station at Dwarka in Delhi from where it was recovered by the police on June 30. Under such circumstances when Rohan Singh and others realised that they had been duped by the quartet, the hotel manager filed a complaint following which the Dharuhera police registered a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust against Vipin Sharma and others. Thus while searching the rooms, occupied by the cheats, the police found a file which contained particulars of some youths who had earlier been called by them at a hotel in Jaipur (Rajasthan) for audition. Consequently a team of Dharuhera police officials went on July 2 to Jaipur where it learnt that numerous youths, including young girls, belonging to two dance academies of Jaipur, had likewise been duped of cash and other costly belongings by them in December 2012. The Jaipur police, which had registered a case of cheating, was clueless as yet about the fraudsters. Meanwhile, a senior police official of Dharuhera said that although tracing of the culprits was an onerous task, yet efforts were on to get at the crafty tricksters.

Filling
of backlog vacancies Ravinder Saini
Jhajjar, July 4 Representatives of various Dalit organisations, intellectuals and students belonging to the Dalit community from different places of the state attended the 'shivir' and stressed upon the need to make sincere collaborative and decisive efforts for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes. The meeting also resolved to launch a statewide campaign against the government if it failed to meet their longstanding demands, including filling of backlog vacancies reserved for Dalits in government institutions, reservation in promotion in government jobs, 20 per cent reservation quota in contractual government jobs, removal of BPL compulsion to avail the benefit of government schemes, establishment of fast-track courts for speedy disposal of heinous crime cases pertaining to the Dalits. Earlier, balming the state government for adopting an "indifferent" attitude towards the Dalit community, the speakers said the government on the one hand claimed to be the biggest well-wisher of the Dalits while on the other hand, it was virtually doing injustice to them by not filling the backlog vacancies in government institutions. “We are struggling hard to get the backlog vacancies filled, but the state government has turned a deaf ear to us. We have given representations to the government many a times to attract its attention towards this burning issue but to no avail,” said Rajesh Shastri, a Dalit leader. He alleged that the Dalits were deliberately being deprived of their constitutional rights under a deep-rooted conspiracy in the state. “Dalits are insecure and unsafe in Haryana due to the failure of the Hooda government in maintaining the law and order situation. Criminals are persistently perpetrating crime against Dalits while the government says every time that the law would take its own course,” said Shastri. “Dalits will not tolerate such an 'irresponsible' attitude being adopted by the government against them,” added Shastri. Dalit leader, Dr Udit Raj, advocate Ram Dhan, Mange Ram Dahiya, Rohtas Talav, Anil Ranga, Raj Kumar Ranga, Rajender Jogpal, Bimal Prakash and Gulshan Kumar also expressed their views. |

Drive
against violation of traffic rules Bijendra Ahlawat Tribune News Service
Rohtak, July 4 The police has issued around 2,500 challans during the past one month as part of the campaign. The number of challans is expected to be higher than the corresponding period last year. "We have continued the drive to check the violation of the norms and the drive has been quite successful with the policemen booking 400 to 500 offenders every week and this campaign is sure to help in disciplining drivers and creating an awareness about the traffic rules," said a spokesperson of the police department. The spokesman said more than 500 violators had been challaned in the district during the past one week. Admitting that the number of vehicles and violations had gone up, he said the department was trying to expand the strength of the policemen on traffic duty. The traffic policemen issued as many as 273 challans on Monday, he claimed. He added that a majority of the challans had been issued due to triple riding, black films on vehicles, overloading and plying without proper documents. However on other hand it is reported that despite the ongoing drive, the violations has been rampant at the spots where there are no traffic cops. " The movement of traffic was errant as majority of the drivers hardly care to follow the rules at the majority of the spots where the traffic congestion is acute and this normally results in chaos and accidents," said Atul, a local resident. He said the traffic system should to be overhauled completely as the less number of the traffic policemen and the lack of authority to punish the offenders on the spot were the major hurdles to putting the things back on the track. "The police hardly takes care of the minor drivers who drive two wheelers and even cars without any fear of the law and several of the offenders manage to give a slip to the policemen," said Nakul, a student. He added that the incidents of road rage had gone up. |
