Railway Police refuses to lodge complaint
Karnal, May 23 In a bizarre incident, which speaks volumes about the highhandedness of the police, an ASI of the Railway Police allegedly refused to lodge a complaint of theft in Karnal and minced no words in telling the complainant that a complaint would be registered only after the thief was caught and stolen goods recovered. “You give your complaint and leave your contact number with us. We will get back to you
once the accused, who is unidentified, will be arrested,” the ASI allegedly told the complainant, Amit, when the latter insisted that at least the complaint should be entered in the “rojnamcha” (daily report register). The ASI said, “Kagaz kale karne se kya hoga.” (What is the use of
wasting paper?) The complaint pertained to the theft of a gold chain weighing about 12-13 grams inside the railway
station on May 13 when Sushma Ahuja (53) went to the railway station. While she was purchasing the ticket for Sonepat to attend a wedding, somebody stole her gold chain. However, the police was adamant that there was a possibility of the chain being lost and refused to register an FIR.

Though the elections are going to be held in Rohtak and Panipat, Anil Rao, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Rohtak range police, has also directed the SPs of Jhajjar and Sonepat district to kick-off a vehicle checking campaign at common border points of Rohtak and Panipat districts so that criminals could be prevented from entering the poll- bound areas. "Besides providing a peaceful atmosphere to people for exercising their franchise, the whole exercise aims at keeping the criminals away from the election process and restraining the use of illegal arms by anti-social elements," said Anil Rao while interacting with The Tribune. The IGP maintained that he himself would monitor the situation and carry out surprise visits at the check posts at border points to ensure the success of the drives. "I have also sought a comprehensive performance report from all the SPs about the campaigns for analysing the outcome," he added. Since Jhajjar district was sharing its border with national capital Delhi and Rohtak, it was essential to make tight checking arrangements to prevent the entry of criminals in Rohtak, said the IGP. Chandigarh, May 23 "The new party will expose various acts of omission and commission of the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress Government in the state and will try to provide a clean and corruption-free administration by forging alliances with like-minded parties," party president and former MLA Roshan Lal Arya told The Tribune here today. Taking potshots at Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for rampant regional bias in development and jobs, Arya rued that the state government bent over backward to grant quota to jats, "the dominant community that ran the political and administrative system in the state". Arya alleged that only jat employees were being given extension in service and non-jats employees were being harassed through various disciplinary actions, including vigilance inquiries. "During the Hooda regime, big builders and corporate houses are calling the shots and incentives to them in shape of liberal policies concerning land acquisition are a proof of their say in the administration. In fact, recent changes in the special economic zone (SEZ) rules to favour the big corporate houses have brought the intention of the government to the fore," he quipped.
