Six-year-old boy drowns in Abohar: Gursewak Singh (6) was drowned when he allegedly slipped into a sub-canal near Daulatpura village. He was playing with his five-year-old sister. Some farmers who noticed the incident jumped into the canal to rescue the boy, but they could not save him. Chandigarh

35-year-old man found murdered: A 35-year-old man of Mehsampur village, Sheetal Ram, was found murdered on the outskirts of Ghurrka village, the native place of his in-laws. The police said the man was killed with sharp-edged weapons. He was reportedly on his way to his in-laws house. Ropar
Youth gets life term
in murder case: A special court at Ropar sentenced a youth to life term in a murder case. Special judge Kanwaljit Singh Bajwa pronounced the sentence and also fined the guilty, Vivek Sharma, with Rs 50,000 besides directing him to pay Rs 40,000 to the victim's family.
It was last year, when during a fight among students of Khalsa College at Anandpur Sahib, one of the students Gaurav Rana was killed.

Gang of robbers busted; 5 held: With the arrest of five persons, the police on Thursday claimed to have busted a gang of robbers and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession. Senior Superintendent of Police Mandip Singh Sidhu said the arrests were made following a tip-off that the accused, including Surinder Singh, Mohammad Azam, Mohammad Israr, Mohammad Iliyas and Mohammad Saleem, were planning a robbery.
Illicit liquor seized, accused escapes: Excise Inspector Manoj Kumar along with his team on Thursday intercepted a car near the office of Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner (AETC) here and seized 13 cases of country liquor. The accused fled the spot, leaving behind the car. AETC Darbara Singh said the accused had been identified as Harjinder Singh of Kanjhla village.
