An ambitious canal-based drinking water project for residents of the mega city may see the light of the day as Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has given a nod to the World Bank-funded project involving an estimated expenditure of Rs 900 crore.

Double murder: Sanitary worker grilled 
Ludhiana, May 23
The police claims to have got some vital clues in the murder case of a mother-daughter duo that took place yesterday at Fateh Jung Mohalla in the Division No. 3 area in the city. Usha Grover and her daughter Heena were found murdered in their house. Almirahs in the house were ransacked and Rs 4 lakh and jewellery worth lakhs were found missing.

MC employees fail to get cold water in own office

Claims of the Municipal Corporation of providing safe drinking water to all the residents of the city fell flat when visitors to the headquarters of the civic body at Mata Rani Chowk (Zone A) as well as the MC employees lodged a complaint with the authorities about inadequate arrangements for drinking water.

Amarinder Singh, Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division), has directed the Civil Surgeon of Ludhiana to constitute a board of doctors to take the blood samples of defendant Charanjit Singh, who has been admitted to the ICU in the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital here, and Kushaljit Singh Bindra and Lovejit Singh Bindra in the presence of complainant Bhupinder Kaur.

The students of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) have initiated a “Facebook page” to discuss the problems and issues regarding university campus, hostels and academics on “virtual space”. The page named “PAU issues and ideas” emerged on May 8 but only 316 persons liked it.

Fire at printing press

I-T team raids industrial unit
Ludhiana, May 23
The investigation wing of the Income Tax Department conducted a raid at Genex Industries Limited located at Cheema Chowk here today. The company manufactures plastic and yarn. Another unit of the company located at Samrala Chowk, Dugri, and a house located at Gurdev Nagar were searched by the team.

Three held with stolen car

The city police has arrested three members of a gang of vehicle thieves. The police has also recovered one stolen Maruti car from their possession.
