Water dispute claims life in Moga village
Moga, May 15 As per the details available from the police, the deceased, identified as Lakshman Singh, got about 3.15 acres of land on lease from one Sadhu Singh about two years ago. Sadhu Singh used to provide water from his pump to irrigate the leased land. Yesterday, Lakshman sought water from Sadhu Singh to irrigate his personal land also. But Sadhu Singh refused on the pretext that he could not provide passage as the adjacent land belongs to his brother Darshan Singh and he has no access to it. Last night, when Darshan Singh learnt that his brother was trying to provide passage to Lakshman from his land, he along with his son Mandeep Singh, one Jaspal Singh and two unknown persons attacked Lakshman with sharp weapons. Lakshman Singh sustained multiple injuries on the head and other parts of the body. He was rushed to a Baghapurana hospital where the doctors stitched the wounds and discharged him. Unfortunately, in the early hours on Wednesday, Lakshman Singh succumbed to his injuries. The police has registered a criminal case under Section 302 of the IPC against the accused. “We have dispatched separate teams of policemen to nab the alleged culprits at their possible hideouts,” said Baghapurana SHO Partap Singh. — TNS |

Rural folk fed up with Akalis: Sathi
Moga, May 15 After holding street corner meetings (nukkad sabhas) at many villages in the Moga assembly segment from where he lost in the recently held by-election, Sathi alleged, “The people of the area know how the by-election was rigged by the Badal family with the help of money and muscle power by misusing the official machinery. Now they have a chance to give a befitting reply by rejecting the SAD-BJP candidates in the PRI elections.” Claiming that the Congress candidates were in a comfortable position in these polls, he challenged the SAD-BJP government to hold free and fair elections. Sathi alleged that the officials of the district administration, particularly the police, were threatening the Congress candidates and supporters and other opposition parties that false cases would be slapped against them. |
