Fazilka, March 12
Resentment prevails amongst the resident of Jalalabad after miscreants vandalised the statue of martyr Bhagat Singh installed on the Punjab National Bank road. Some unidentified persons partially damaged the right arm of the statue.

The activists of different social organisations, under the banner of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Yadgar Committee and Anti-Terrorists Front, staged a protest near the statue of Bhagat Singh today.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jalalabad, Surinderpal Singh, visited the site and assured the agitating members of stringent action against the miscreants responsible for vandalising the statue.

“The police has booked unidentified persons under Section 3 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act on the basis of a complaint lodged by Suba Singh, president, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Yadgar Sabha,” said Station House Officer Jagdish Lal.

“Those responsible for it should be arrested immediately. If the demand is not met, we shall intensify the agitation,” warned Pawan Arora, general secretary, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Yadgar Committee, Jalalabad.

Earlier also, the residents had expressed their concern when the statue of martyr Udham Singh had been damaged four years ago.

Faridkot, March 12
A week after the Punjab Police arrested a large number of leaders belonging to farmer unions as a pre-emptive measure to foil their 'Rail Roko' agitation and lodged them in Central Jail here, the jail authorities are finding themselves in a difficult situation.

The reason for this is that many of these arrested farmer leaders were part of a protracted agitation in Faridkot after a 15-year-old minor girl was kidnapped and raped by a gangster.

Now, as the accused in the rape and kidnapping case are also lodged in Central Jail, Faridkot, the jail authorities fear confrontation between the two groups.

The leaders and members of various farmer organisations over the state had actively participated in protests and dharnas in Faridkot for over two months for the recovery of the minor rape victim after her kidnapping.
