Gang of robbers busted, 2 held

The city police has busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of two persons. The police has also recovered looted items, including cash, cars and a 7.65-bore pistol from their possession.

37 mothers, 17 women sarpanches honoured

Tanu M Kashayap, deputy commissioner, honoured as many as 37 mothers, who have given birth to female babies in the month of October as well as 17 women sarpanches, who have independently been running the affairs of their respective gram panchayats, at the Sex Ratio Awareness Mela organised here at Baradari Garden on Monday.

State govt to boost dairy farming

The state government has prepared a comprehensive plan to bring in qualitative improvement in the live stock to give a fillip to dairy farming by developing Sahibal and Neeli Ravi breed of buffaloes.

4 transformer thieves arrested
Phagwara, November 26
The police has arrested four members of an Inter-district gang of transformers thieves identified as Jasbir Singh of Bohani, Amarjit Singh, Charanjit Singh and Avtar Hans (All residents of Ranipur) and recovered 134 kg of aluminum wire, stolen from the power transformers of farmers Binderjit of Nangal Majha, Jatinderpal, Ranjit Singh, Satwinder Singh, Tara Singh and Darshan Kaur of Ranipur.

Gang of robbers busted, 2 held

Hoshiarpur, November 26
The city police has busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of two persons. The police has also recovered looted items, including cash, cars and a 7.65-bore pistol from their possession.

The arrested robbers have been identified as Sachin Kumar Duggal of the local Sheikhan Mohalla locality and Inderjit Singh, alias Lovely, resident of Nadali, Begowal police station, Kapurthala, but presently residing at Dasuya.

Their four accomplices - kingpin of the gang Rakesh Kumar, alias Ricky, resident of the local Katcha Toba, Bunti, alias Nonu, alias Pendu, resident of the local Balmik Mohalla, Gagan Brar of the local Guru Nanak Nagar and Devinder Singh of Ferozepur - are still at large. On seeing an Accent car (No PB-21A-0049) parked under suspicious circumstances near the local Tagore Park, the police checked it and the persons sitting inside the car were identified as Sachin Kumar Duggal and Inderjit Singh. During their checking, the police recovered a 7.65-bore pistol along with three live cartridges from Sachin Kumar Duggal and an air pistol from Inderjit Singh. The police also recovered one LCD, Rs 1.68 lakh and an Alto car (No PB-07T-6269) from, them.

37 mothers, 17 women sarpanches honoured

Nawanshahr, November 26
Tanu M Kashayap, deputy commissioner, honoured as many as 37 mothers, who have given birth to female babies in the month of October as well as 17 women sarpanches, who have independently been running the affairs of their respective gram panchayats, at the Sex Ratio Awareness Mela organised here at Baradari Garden on Monday.

Representatives of various NGOs, educationists and students attended the mela, which was aimed to mobilise and educate people about their surroundings to shun discrimination on the basis of sex to improve sex ratio.—OC

State govt to boost dairy farming

Nawanshahr, November 26
The state government has prepared a comprehensive plan to bring in qualitative improvement in the live stock to give a fillip to dairy farming by developing Sahibal and Neeli Ravi breed of buffaloes.

Both these breeds belong to Pakistan and the state government has planned to get the semen of these breeds imported from Pakistan for the purpose. This was said by Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Animal Husbandry Minister, during the Inauguration of the district-level Live Stock Mela.—OC
