1,000 cops to maintain law and order on Divali

Jalandhar, November 12
The police has made elaborate security arrangements to maintain law and order in the city on Divali. Apart from the staff of the city police, jawans of the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) have also been deployed in the city to tackle any untoward incidents.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Headquarters, Navjot Singh Mahal said about 1,000 police personnel ,including 250 jawans of the PAP, had been deployed at the various points of the city to keep tab over anti-social elements. Though the city police had not received any threat call, yet the police would make strict security arrangements in the city.

He said special instructions had been issued to the Station House Officers (SHOs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to make full-fledged security arrangement in their jurisdictions. As many as 50 special nakas had been installed at the various strategic points of the city where one Inspector-rank official would also remain present.

He said about 20 police personnel of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team had also been deployed in the city. He said the SWAT staff was specially trained and carry highly sophisticated weapons. PCR teams had been told to do day-and-night patrolling in the city.

The ADCP said, with all these security arrangements, the city police would ensure that no anti-social elements disturb the peace of the city in the ongoing festival season.

A police official claimed that policemen in civvies had also been conducting patrolling in the congested markets of the city to keep tab over trouble makers and rowdy youths.
