State rural games from today

Hoshiarpur, November 5
The Sports Department is organising the Punjab State Rural Games for boys under-16 under the Panchayat Yuva Karira aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) Scheme here from November 6 to 8.

Disclosing this, Harminder Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development), said the games would be held in 12 disciplines. As many as 2,500 sportspersons would participate in the games and more than 200 officials were deputed for the smooth conduct of the event.

Giving detail of the competition, he said 12 disciplines were athletics, basketball, boxing, football, hockey, handball, judo, kho-kho, kabaddi, volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling. Jasvirpal Kaur had been deputed by the Sports Department as a nodal officer to supervise all the arrangements for the games.

According to Jasvirpal, Competitions in athletics, kabaddi, kho-kho, basketball, volleyball and handball will be conducted at the outdoor stadium, whereas those in boxing, judo, wrestling and weightlifting will be held in the indoor stadium. Hockey and football games would be held at the Police Line grounds. — OC
