Don’t withdraw Jammu-Nanded train: Cong leader to minister
Our Correspondent

Phagwara, November 21
Former Punjab minister and senior Congress leader Joginder Singh Mann has urged Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal not to withdraw the Jammu-Nanded train via Amritsar. The train would make its final journey on November 26.

In a letter sent to Bansal, Mann said it was an unfair decision taken by the Union Railway Ministry to disband the weekly train from Jammu to Nanded which will cause a lot of inconvenience to the Sikh devotees of the region, particularly Doaba.

Mann said Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib at Nanded (Maharashtra) is one of the holiest Sikh shrines in the world. But as at present only one train, ‘Sachkhand Express’, runs daily between Amritsar and Nanded.

He said as there is only one daily train to Sri Hazur Sahib, there is a large number of devotees who fail to visit the shrine due to long waiting lists. “Instead of upgrading it to a daily train, the Railways has decided to disband this train from November 26,” he said.

  Man found murdered

Phagwara, November 21
A middle-aged man, identified as Darbara Singh, was reportedly brutally murdered with sharp-edged weapons by some unidentified armed assailants in the nearby Masani village near Apra yesterday night.

Paramjit Kaur, widow of the deceased, told the police that her husband went to pay obeisance at a religious place in the village on Tuesday evening but did not return home. She said after a long hour search with the assistance of a few neighbourers, her husband was found murdered and his dead body was lying in a pool of blood near the village after midnight last night.

She expressed doubts on two villagers, Japi and Tari, whose sister married with her nephew without the consent of the families last year and they took revenge from her husband.

SHO Goraya Sarabjit Rai said the police had registered a case under Section 302/34 of the IPC and had sent the body of the deceased to the Phillaur Civil Hospital for postmortem examination. He added that no arrest had been made so for, but the police was investigating the case on various angles. — OC
