Amritsar, May 2 Datinderpal Singh was rushed to a private hospital in a serious condition where he succumbed to his injury today. The incident also sent shock waves in the school. At the time of the incident, the boy was alone at home as his father had gone to bring his wife from station who was coming from Delhi where the elder brother of the deceased used to study. When they returned home, they found Datinder lying in a pool of blood in a serious condition. According to details available, Datinderpal took the extreme step as he was depressed with his performance in studies. He was admitted to the school only in August last year. School Principal Neera Sharma, while expressing grief for the bereaved family, said the boy did not turn up in the school after he got compartment in the Class XI examination. She said when the school authorities contacted the family, they said Datinder was suffering from jaundice. She said today morning they got the news that he had died in the hospital due to jaundice. Factionalism in SAD to fore
Gunachaur (Nawanshahr), May 2 While the party managed to put up good shows in favour of its candidate Dr Daljeet Singh Cheema, many felt that it was a mere cover up in front of Deputy Chief Minister, who had pulled up the workers for a low gathering during the martyrdom day function of Bhagat Singh in Khatkar Kalan on March 23. Banga circle president Harjagdeep Singh Mann seemed missing from a rally addressed in Gunachaur village falling in Banga assembly segment. Here, MLA Banga Mohan Lal and chairman of the district planning board Jaswinder Singh Anokharwal, who perhaps do not go along well, were seen jostling with each other to steal the limelight. The president of urban women wing of the party and daughter-in-law of SAD MLA Jatinder Singh Kariha, Maninder Kaur, was also nowhere to be seen in a rally addressed in Nawanshahr grain market this afternoon. President of district urban wing Harsh Sareen was also conspicuous by his absence. Though Kariha and district rural president Mahinder Singh Hussainpuri do not share a cordial relation, they at least did not express it in the deputy CM’s rally. Resham Singh Thiara, a party leader who had turned defiant in assembly polls owing to denial of ticket, made it to the event. But many feel that he had been upset for he had not been entrusted with any post despite an old commitment. The party workers also revealed that while many leaders made it to the rallies, they were not willingly campaigning for the candidate, a fact which could go against Dr Cheema. However, many also believe that there seems nothing much to worry about as there have been incidents of infighting within the Congress leadership in the area as well. During today’s rally, Sukhbir claimed that his wife’s opponent from Bathinda and son of former CM Capt Amarinder Singh, Raninder, would lose by a major margin forcing him to forfeit his deposits. His use of words seemed a bit crude as he said, “Vekhyo, Sade Chandumajra sahib Patiale di maharani nu daura ke lai jaange”. Our Correspondent adds: Also addressing rallies, SGPC general secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur grilled the Congress for using Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as a mask to seek votes by raising the issue of “Sikh Prime Minister” in Punjab and dared the Congress to answer that why it had not consulted the “Sikh Prime Minister” before allotting tickets to Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar and “managing” CBI’s clean chit to Tytler? Sitting BJP MP from Hoshiarpur, Avinash Khanna, was at his rhetoric best when he termed the UPA as “Ulta Pulta Alliance” and coined a slogan - “Sonia jiski mummy hai, who sarkar nikkami hai”. Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, SAD-BJP nominee, while urging the people to vote in his favour, cautioned the workers against complacency. |

LPU students go on strike
Jalandhar, May 2 The students said since they had taken admission in four-year or six-year integrated courses, the increased fee charges would be a huge burden on them. Aman Mittal, one of LPU’s directors, said, “We have not yet finalised the new fee charges. It is not at all an issue with them. They are rather saying that they will not pay any extra power bills except the hostel charges, even as it had been clearly mentioned in the prospectus.” He added that the students had rather been using charges as an excuse. “We have been strict on maintaining discipline and putting up rules in black and white on noticeboards. The students are actually opposed to that,” he maintained. |
