Youth fires at relatives, injures one
Jalandhar, April 30 The incident occurred in the wee hours when Pradeep Singh, armed with a .12-bore double barrel gun, reached the house of Baldev Singh and fired two shots at him. In the firing, Baldev Singh had a narrow escape, while his wife Mohinder Kaur sustained bullet injuries. She was rushed to the local Civil Hospital and is said to be out of danger. Pradeep Singh fled after the incident. After receiving information, the police nabbed Pradeep Singh in just 45 minutes at a special naka set up Talking to The Tribune, ASP Inderbir Singh, SHO, Lambra, said a message was flashed from the Control Room and the entire district was sealed to nab Pradeep Singh. The weapon used in the offence (.12-bore double barrel gun) was also recovered from Pradeep Singh. He was caught while trying to escape in a Maruti car and 17 live cartridges were also recovered from him. The police has recovered two empty cartridges, a broken butt of the gun, besides some other evidence from the scene of crime. A case under Section 307 of the IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act has been registered against Pradeep at Lambra police station. The district police has moved an application to the Moga district administration seeking cancellation of the licence of weapon issued to Pradeep. |

Jalandhar, April 30 Ankush Kumar, a resident of Bhagat Singh Nagar in Gurdaspur, and Parampal Singh of Amritsar, died on the spot while Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Forest Colony, Nurpur, in Himachal Pradesh, Lakhan pal of Anandpur Sahib and Gurjan Singh of Chogawan near Lopoke in Amritsar, were injured in the mishap. Students of B.Tech course, the five had left for Pathankot to attend some party last evening in their car (HP-38A-9922) from the university. They met with the tragedy while on their way back to Jalandhar early this morning. According to the police, Sandeep was driving the car while Parampal was sitting on the front seat. Ankush was sitting on the back left seat accompanied by Lakhanpal and Gurjant Singh when the mishap occurred. In his complaint to the police, Gurjant Singh claimed the truck driver hit their vehicle on the left side while they were overtaking him. With the impact of the collision, Parampal and Ankush were crushed to death while others sitting on the right side sustained injuries. The truck driver is said to have fled from the scene after the mishap. Receiving information, the police reached the spot and extricated the bodies from the mangled remains of the vehicle. The bodies were handed over to the families after postmortem examinations at the local civil hospital. The police has registered a case against the truck driver on the complaint of Gurjant Singh at Maqsudan police station. |

Jalandhar, April 30 Chaudhary Santokh Singh, former minister and chairman of the campaign committee for the Jalandhar constituency, said Sonia was their star campaigner and would apprise the people of the achievements of the UPA government. He also said the road show of former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh in Jalandhar, scheduled for May 2, had been cancelled in view of the rally. A fresh date would be announced soon, he added. “We will win this seat with a record margin,” he asserted. |
