Exactly a fortnight after three of the Capital’s top markets were targeted by terrorists, a medium-intensity blast ripped through the congested flower market in South Delhi’s Mehrauli area killing at least two and injuring 22 others.

‘I will never go to play outside’

“I was having lunch with my mother when suddenly we heard a loud bang. My grandfather was sitting downstairs in the shop. We ran to him and saw smoke all over the place. We were shocked,” Reena, 20, described the blast at Mehrauli. Delhi residents are more shocked at the audacity of terrorists to strike at will. How could two bike riders drop a bomb and just drive away, asks a young woman.

Patil reviews situation

Earlier on, the Delhi police had received a call threatening blasts in the Capital, which was traced to a PCO in Faridabad. Central agencies have been directed to look into the matter. Within hours of the bomb blast that rocked Mehrauli in South Delhi area, home minister Shivraj Patil today reviewed the situation with top officials of his ministry and extended all assistance to the Delhi police commissioner to deal with the incident.

Cops wash site before experts arrive
New Delhi: Delhi police in all likelihood have destroyed forensic evidence that could have helped in gathering information about the blast apparently due to lack of knowledge about forensic science. Even before bomb experts and NSG personnel visited the site, Delhi policemen removed the debris and washed the bloodstains from the blast site.

123 vote put off again
The House of Representatives on Friday (Saturday in India) debated a Bill on the US-India civilian nuclear deal but put off a vote even as a supporter of the initiative said delaying further action would be perceived in India as an insult to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Panel on pay in forces, arrears to be paid soon

In an attempt to address the resentment of the armed forces over lowering of their status vis-à-vis their civilian counterparts by the Sixth Pay Commission, the Government today formed a committee of three ministers headed by Union external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee to look into the matter.

Noted singer Mahendra Kapoor dead Mumbai, September 27 Noted playback singer Mahendra Kapoor (74) died today following a heart attack. The funeral will take place tomorrow. Kapoor is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.
