Sex racket accused woman’s house ransacked
Srinagar, May 5
Amid protest demonstrations, life was paralysed throughout the valley against the recently unearthed sex scandal in response to a call given by the Central Traders and Manufacturers Association and supported by several separatist organisations.

Cops kill 2 assailants after chase in Gurgaon
Gurgaon, May 5
A dreaded criminal of the area was shot on the court premises here today. Two assailants trying to flee were shot when they opened fire at police personnel. According to an eyewitness, four persons opened fire on Hari Dutt of Khandsa village, an accused in 18 cases of heinous crime, including murder and dacoity.

Even as the CBI is tightening its noose on former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala and his family members in the “disproportionate assets” case, there could be more trouble for Chautalas in the days to come if the Income Tax Department initiates a probe into the possible “tax evasion angle”.

Naushad Ali, one of the greatest music directors of Indian cinema who composed hit songs like ‘Mohabbat ki jhooti kahani pe roye’ (“Mughal-e-Azam”) and ‘Duniya mein hum aaye hain to jeena hi padega’ (“Mother India”), died here today at the age of 86.

Rail track to Morinda ready
New Delhi, May 5
The inauguration of the Chandigarh-Morinda line is at the mercy of the Prime Minister or Railway Minister. Northern Railway General Manager V.N.Mathur told TNS here on the sidelines of the annual meeting of General Managers of all 17 zones of the Indian Railways that the Chandigarh-Morinda line is ready and is awaiting inauguration by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh or by the Railway Minister, Mr Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Gold crosses Rs 10,000 mark

For the first time ever, gold prices today crossed the Rs 10,000 barrier to sell at Rs 10,050 per 10 gm, while silver rose by Rs 600 per kg but did not set any record at the local bullion market today.

Gas leak from an ice factory caused major panic among residents in thickly-populated Patel Nagar at about midnight here with many of them fleeing the place complaining of irritation in the eyes and nausea. No casualty could be ascertained.
