Army to be withdrawn from Vadodara

Vadodara, May 5
The Army will be withdrawn tomorrow from two police station areas of riot-hit Raopura and Karelibagh of the city following improvement in the situation there but would remain deployed in other curfew-bound localities.

The authorities decided to extend curfew relaxation hours in all localities from two to four hours from tomorrow and bring in its ambit persons other than women and children, Vadodara Police Commissioner Deepak Swarup told reporters here today.

He said the Army would be pulled out from 6 am tomorrow as no untoward incident had been reported from there for the past two to three days.

However, the troops would remain in four police station areas of the city, Wadi, Nawapura and Panigate, Swarup added.

The city had witnessed widespread violence and arson following the demolition of a 200-year-old dargah in the city by the civic authorities.

Curfew would be relaxed for four hours tomorrow and all persons will be allowed to move out of their houses during that time. So far, the curfew relaxation has been for two hours and only women and children were permitted to come out. — PTI
