Panchayat’s plea to DSP
: Two women members and a male member of the gram panchayat of Achadiki in this subdivision on Thursday urged the DSP to investigate the alleged rape of a minor girl at a religious place at Jandwala Hanwanta here. Quoting reports published in a section of the Press, Ms Balwinder Kaur, Ms Amarjit Kaur and Mr Sohan Singh, members of the panchayat, said in a complaint that inquiries made by them confirmed that a boy stood guard as the minor girl student was allegedly raped by two brothers inside a dera near Jandwala Hanwanta on April 28. The persons responsible for the ghastly act belonged to Achadiki village. Some members of the panchayat reported the matter to the police at Khuyiansarwar and got all the culprits arrested on Saturday but they were reportedly released under some pressure on Monday.

New school timings
: The Deputy Commissioner, has ordered rescheduling of school timings keeping in view the continuous rise in temperature. All primary, middle, high and secondary schools will function from 7.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Earlier the school timings were from 8 am to 2.45 p.m. The order will be applicable to all government, recognised and private public schools.

Accident victim dead
: Harjinder Singh (52), a resident of Indira Nagar, who was hit by a PRTC bus on April 30 and was admitted to a private hospital in Ludhiana, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday night. The body has been sent for postmortem.

Group clash: Four persons sustained serious injuries in a group clash at the Palahi Gate locality here on Friday. According to the police, the cause of the clash was an old enmity. The injured were identified as Gurpal Singh, Ashok Kumar, Satish Kumar and Pawan Kumar, all residents of Palahi Gate. All the 20 persons involved in the clash have reportedly been booked.

Tributes paid to Mahajan
: Members of local bar association observed a two-minute silence and suspended work for the entire day as a mark of respect to BJP leader Pramod Mahajan who succumbed to bullet injuries on Wednesday. A prayer meeting was held in the morning in the bar room.

Youth shot at
: One person was shot at by three youths in the market in Bahadurgarh town on Thursday. The youth was admitted to a private hospital where his condition was said to be critical. Jitender, a truck driver from Uttar Pradesh, was riding the pillion on the motorcycle of his employer, Shriom, when three youths of a motorcycle chased them and opened fire. The police has registered a case.

Roadways staff observes strike
: Haryana Roadways employees went on strike here on Thursday and there was no bus service after 8 am. The employees sat on a dharna at the bus stand and refused to take the buses on the road to protest against the police lathi charge on roadways employees at Hisar on Thursday who were protesting against introduction of Volvo bus service between Hisar and Chandigarh.

Retired college teachers’ plea
: The haryana College Retired Principals and Teachers Association (HCRPTA) has urged the Chief Minister to offer pensionary benefits from the cutoff date of December 15, 2004. The president of the HCRPTA, Dr SC Aggarwal has welcomed the state government’s announcement on dearness allowance on pension.

Shimla
Bail plea rejected
: The Himachal Pradesh High Court has rejected the bail application of Mr Khima Ram of Mandi district who is allegedly involved in the case of embezzlement of Rs 49 lakh in connivance with an official of the Kangra Central Cooperative Bank (Bhuntar). While rejecting the bail application, Mr Justice Deepak Gupta observed that there was sufficient material on record against the accused.

Car rams into hospital building
: In a bizarre incident, two children who were driving a Santro (HP-14-7994) car not only rammed into a Maruti car (HP-14-0209) and hit the railing of a regional hospital but rammed it into the metal roof of residential buildings of the hospital staff. The accident severely damaged the roof and the vehicle. The incident occurred on Thursday when Vinay Verma and his friend drove the vehicle from their Kotla Nullah residence at great speed towards the regional hospital.

Bridge inaugurated
: Mrs Pratibha Singh, MP from Mandi, dedicated the Beena bridge situated about 7 km from here to the public on Friday. According to the Public Works Department, Rs 31 lakh was spent on the bridge. She laid the foundation stone of a science block of Senior Secondary School, Jai Devi.
