The first Dalit President of India, K.R. Narayanan, breathed his last at the Army Research and Referral Hospital here today. He was 84 and is survived by his wife Usha and two daughters, Amrita and Chitra, who is India’s Ambassador to Turkey.

The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, at the inauguration of the Haksar Memorial Conference at CRRID in Chandigarh on Wednesday.Saying that the destiny of South Asia was interlinked, the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, today called upon India’s immediate neighbours to learn to work together to deal with the challenges of poverty, disease, natural disasters and terrorism.

7 die in train mishap

Seven persons were killed and 25 others injured when a coal-laden goods train rammed into the 619 up Gomoh-Chowpan passenger train at Barwadih station in Jharkhand’s Lathehar district today.

Indian and Pakistani officials from both sides of the LoC today supervised the exchange of relief material for the quake-affected population.
Pakistani porters carry bags of relief material following the opening of the Aman Setu bridge, which links India and Pakistan on the Line of Control. The two countries are exchanging the relief material to help the quake-hit people.
