Amarinder to be honoured:
The District Congress Committee (DCC-Rural) has decided to honour the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, for the overall development of the state under his leadership. A press statement issued here said that a meeting of the rural DCC was held under its president Mr. Inderjit Singh Basarke, where the decision to honour the Chief Minister was taken unanimously.

BATALA
Case registered: Dr Jitendra Kumar SSP of Batala police district, said here on Thursday that a case had been registered at the Civil Lines police station on a complaint by Mrs Deepika, daughter of Mr Narinder Mehra, of Batala against her in-laws. The complainant alleged that within a few days of her marriage her in-laws started demanding a car. The matter was amicably settled, but after sometime, they again started harassing her.

KAPURTHALA
One arrested
: The local police has arrested Mandeep Singh of Santpura mohalla for possessing and manufacturing duplicate CDs here on Thursday. A police party of the CIA staff, raided the houses of the accused and recovered 250 pirated CDs, 350 empty CDs and 50 CDs of blue films with CD copier and a DVD player. The police has arrested the accused after registering a case under Sections 292, 294, 420, 486 of the IPC and the Copyright Act of 1975.

NAWANSHAHR
Online facility for NRIs
: The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Krishan Kumar, has chalked out a project for providing “online delivery of services” to the NRIs. A software is being prepared for setting up an NRI website for the speedy redressal of grievances of NRIs and providing them the facility of online delivery of services. A ‘dedicated cell’ at Suvidha Centre here would be set up for the purpose.

Seminar held: The district Education Department has organised subdivision-level Students Science Seminar — 2005 on the topic. “A Century of Physics — Achievements and Challenges” at Baba Gola Government Senior Secondary School, Banga, and Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Balachaur, for Nawanshahr and Balachaur subdivisions, respectively. The district-level competition will be held at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Rahon, on August 18, informed Mr Balihar Singh Bains, district Science Supervisor.

Fund-raising tour ends: The president of the Guru Nanak Mission Medical and Educational Trust, Dhahan Kaleran, Dr Budh Singh Dhahan, has returned from the ‘fund-raising tour’ of the USA. The 30th fund-raising tour of Dr Dhahan was aimed at mobilising donations from the NRIs for the ongoing construction work of the Trauma Centre at Guru Nanak Mission Hospital, Dhahan Kaleran, being run by the trust. A warm welcome was accorded to him by the trustees, staff and prominent citizens of the area at the Gurdwara on the trust premises on Friday.

PHAGWARA
2 labourers hurt
:Two labourers were injured when they were working at a diary here on Friday. According to sources, two labourers identified as Tilak Raj of Pandwa village and Bhola of Jamalpur village, were working at a dairy in Pandwa village. Suddenly the roof caved in, injuring both of them seriously. They were rushed to the local Civil Hospital. Doctor attending on them said their condition was stable.

PANCHKULA
Check-up camp: The local unit of the Family Planning Association of India, in collaboration with the Inner Wheel Club of Panchkula, organised an awareness programme on importance of breast feeding and nutrition on Sunday. A large number of antenatal and post natal women from Maheshpur, Devi Nagar, Azad Colony, Railley and Railla attended the programme. A medical check up camp was organised on the occasion. 

Celebrated: The Independence Day week was celebrated at Saint Soldier Divine Public School, Sector 16, Panchkula. A peace march was taken out by tiny tots of the school on Saturday.

KURUKSHETRA
3 held for eve teasing, bailed out:
Three persons, who had been arrested for eve teasing near the girls’ hostels on the university campus here on Wednesday, were produced in the local court on Friday and were bailed out. The district police chief, Mr Sanjay Kumar, said the trio included two Kurukshetra University employees while the third one was an outsider. They were found to be under the influence of liquor and the car, in which they going, had also been impounded.

HAU V-C for tree plantation
: Haryana Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor, Ms Asha Sharma, has said that in view of the growing need for the conservation of natural resources and environment protection, tree-plantation in the rainy season should be made mandatory. Ms Sharma stated this after inaugurating a university-level vanmahotsava function. She said the tree species, apart from providing shade and beauty, also fulfilled the growing energy needs realising the importance of trees for the mankind, they should plant at least one sapling in their life and nurture it, she observed.

Cows seized
: The district police apprehended two trucks loaded with 29 cows allegedly being taken to slaughter houses in Uttar Pradesh on Friday. One of the cows was found dead. Police sources said the cows were being smuggled in two trucks (number plates were missing) from Bibipur Ghat on Yamuna river. When the police tried to intercept the trucks, the smugglers fled leaving behind the trucks. The freed cows were later sent to a gaushala. Cases were registered against unidentified smugglers. 

REWARI
Bail granted:
Atma Ram Bishnoi, Deputy Superintendent, Kamal Singh, head Warden of the district jail, and Ruchi, wife of the escapee Jeeta, were produced in the court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mr Baljeet Singh, where they were granted bail by the court in the case of negligence and criminal conspiracy registered earlier against them by the Model Town police. However, the police was still clueless in regard to the whereabouts of the undertrial prisoner and notorious criminal Jeeta who escaped from the district jail here on Wednesday.

Rash driving : A young scooterist Munish of Naichana village near here died on the spot when his scooter was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Rewari-Bharawas road near here. In another incident, Ram Narain was crushed to death by a speeding trailer on the Delhi-Jaipur highway near the village on Wednesday. The police has booked both the drivers for rash and negligent driving. 

SONEPAT
Woman run over by train:
A woman was run over and killed by a train at Ganaur railway station, 16 km from here, on Saturday. It is learnt that she was crossing the railway track when she was hit by the train. She was identified as Geeta, wife of Ramesh. The GRP has sent the body for a post-mortem examination. 

Four-year-old boy sodomised: A four-and-a-half-year-old boy was allegedly sodomised by a youth at Kalupur village, about 2 km from here, on Friday. The alleged accused identified as Sunil, is a resident of the same village. He managed to escapte immediately after committing the crime. A case has been registered.

6 booked in murder case: The Kharkhauda police has registered a case under Section 302, IPC, and other sections of the Indian Arms Act against six persons in connection with alleged murder of Parveen of Googaheri village (Rohtak district) at Khanda village. Giving this information, Mr Anil Kumar Rao, SP, told mediapersons here on Saturday that the police had also arrested four of the six persons named in the FIR and they were identified as Chander Singh, Rakesh, Soosu and Sulley. The remaining two, Kapil and Dharminder, were still absconding.

Surprise checking at market: Mr Manga Ram Dhul, SDM, conducted surprise checking at the fruit and vegetable market at Ganaur, 16 km from here, on Saturday and found the Secretary of the market committee absent. The SDM took a serious note of the deteriorating sanitary conditions in the market and listened to arhtiyas’ and retailers’ complaints against the inefficient working of the market committee.

Thieves decamp with valuables: Thieves are reported to have entered a house in Vijay Nagar here on Friday night. They allegedly decamped with three mobile phones, a gold chain and other household goods worth several thousands of rupees. The house owner has informed the police about the theft.
