Sakina Begum, a middle-aged-woman, was attacked by a stray bull at Raura Sector road in town here, resulting in her intestines bulging out of her lady.

Several people on the road rushed to save the woman from the fury of the bull but failed. She was immediately rushed to the zonal hospital here but could not be saved. Her last rites were performed on the bank of Gobind Sagar here on Friday.

Local Jama Maszid Committee president Shan Ali, senior vice-president Hussain Ali and hundreds of members of Muslim community held Bilaspur town nagar parishad responsible for the death of the poor woman.

They urged the government to pay adequate compensation to the poor family of Sakina Begum.

They said this was the second case where a stray cattle killed a citizen within one month here as hundreds of stray cows and bulls roam freely in the town.

Repeated requests by the citizens against these stray cattle which have become a menace on the roads had failed to move the authorities concerned.

Tomato growers block traffic
Our Correspondent

Solan, August 13
Peeved at the lack of traffic management at the local sabzi mandi, about 300 tomato growers from all over the region staged a dharna at the gate and later blocked traffic on the NH-22. They were protesting against the virtual non-existent parking and traffic facilities on the mandi premises.

The tomato growers contended that the vehicles entering and leaving the premises should be properly channelled. In the absence of proper management there was a rush of haphazardly parked vehicles which inconvenienced them daily.

Later, a committee comprising Mr Laik Ram, chairman of the marketing committee, police officials and transporters decided to streamline the traffic and chalked out various directions. This included ban on idle vehicles on the premises before 2 p.m., loading of vegetables to be executed till 2 p.m. and ensuring two separate lanes for vehicles entering and leaving the premises during mornings. The over one-hour long protest was finally called off after this decision.
