New Delhi, August 13
The CPI today set at least seven priorities for the UPA government, including introduction of the Employment Guarantee Programme and passage of Women Reservation Bills in the ongoing session of Parliament, and stop move on hike in petroleum products.

The CPI also demanded the introduction of the Forest Dwellers Rights Bill and the one on Unorganised Labour.

It also said a Central legislation for Agricultural Workers should be prepared without any further delay.

Briefing mediapersons on the deliberations of the three-day Party National Council, its General Secretary A.B. Bardhan said the party would oppose any further hike in the prices of petrol, diesel, LPG among other things.

The 31-member council, which met for three days here, resolved to hold an All-India Day for Implementation of the National Common Minimum Programme by holding protest meetings and demonstrations rallies and sit-ins.

On Bihar situation, Mr Bardhan said the party extended full support to the call for Bihar bandh in protest against the arbitrary actions of the Governor, “which have only worsened the situation in the state”.

Replying to a query, he said the party, while finalising its poll strategy for Bihar, would ensure that the NDA did not get advantage of any situation.

“We are talking to all secular parties, including the LJP, the SP and the Congress.”

Flanked by party national secretaries D. Raja and Shamim Faizi, Mr Bardhan said the party would also extend support to the countrywide general strike on September 29 as decided by all the Left-oriented central trade unions. — UNI
