Sanjay performs rituals amid unruly crowd
Tribune News Service

Yamunanagar, May 29
A huge noisy crowd today turned a solemn occasion into a “filmi tamasha” as Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt came to the banks of the Yamuna to perform rituals for his father, Sunil Dutt, who died on May 25.

The crowd did not let him perform the rituals in peace. His brother-in-law and film star Kumar Gaurav was heard shouting at the crowd as the gathering refused to observe silence and instead tried to push its way towards Sanjay Dutt.

Sanjay Dutt accompanied by his two sisters, niece, Kumar Gaurav and relatives had reached the samadhi of his grandmother Kulwanti Dutt located near a bridge over the Yamuna, connecting Yamunanagar, and Saharanpur. The crowd was shouting and whistling.

The crowd wanted to have a glimpse of Sanjay Dutt, but most of them had to return home disappointed like thousands who had gathered at his village Mandoli. The star did not go to his village.

Sanjay Dutt carrying ashes of his father had reached the samadhi in a cavalcade of over 20 vehicles. People, including hundreds of children, had flocked to the place in advance. The police had to clear the way for Sanjay Dutt and his family members to the samadhi. Kumar Gaurav and personal secretaries of the superstar were seen pushing the crowd.

However, Sanjay Dutt did not utter a word. After reaching the samadhi, he sat down for the rituals.

After spending about 30 minutes, Sanjay Dutt went in a vehicle driven by MP Naveen Jindal towards Yamunanagar, raising speculations that he would visit his village Mandoli. However, to the disappointment of over 10,000 persons, who had gathered from nearby places, including Saharanpur, he straightaway went to the Balarpur Paper Mill grounds, Yamunanagar, where his chopper was parked and flew off to Hardwar, where the ashes would be immersed in the Ganga tomorrow.

Karnal: The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on Sunday received the ashes of Sunil Dutt at Behalgarh village in Sonepat district and paid floral tributes to the departed leader.

Among others, who paid their homage to the late leader were Mr Randeep Singh Surjewala, Transport Minister; Mr Jatinder Malik, Mr Ramesh Kaushik, Dr Raghbir Singh Kadian, Mr Anil Takkar, Mr Sukhbir Farmana and Mr Rajender Joon, all MLAs; and the Secretary, Union Ministry of Sports and Youth Welfare, Mrs Meenakshi Anand Chaudhary.

Hundreds of Congress workers, senior officers of the district administration and people from all walks of life also paid respects to the departed soul.

Sunil Dutt’s daughters Namrata and Priyanka, son-in-laws Owen Roncen and Kumar Gaurav and his three granddaughters were accompanying the urn.

The urn containing the ashes of the departed leader reached Gharaunda in Karnal district at noon, which was received on behalf of the district administration by Mr Girish Arora, Subdivisional Magistrate.

Mr Virender Singh Rathore, Deputy Advocate General of Haryana, and other prominent local leaders paid floral tributes.

After this, the mortal remains of Sunil Dutt were received at Karnal by Mrs Sumita Singh, local MLA, along with hundreds of Congress workers.

The sky echoed with slogans like “Sunil Dutt amar rahe” and “Jab tak suraj chand rahega Sunil Dutt tera naam rahega”.
