PMT to be held this month Rohtak, June 3 Addressing a press conference, he said the date would be announced by the weekend. Asked why the test had been postponed and the competent authority changed at the last minute, he said there were certain confidential reasons which could not be stated publicly. The test would be conducted in a transparent manner to allay fears of students, he said. The test was scheduled to be held on May 26, but it was postponed at the last minute. The government order specifying the competent authority to hold the test was also changed partially. Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University was to supervise it. However, after the postponement, the responsibility was entrusted to the Director of the PGIMS. Dr Poonia said about 400 posts in the institute, which had been vacant for some time would be filled shortly. These could not be filled earlier because of the Lok Sabha poll. He said the vacant posts of teachers in the institute would also be filled soon as the Haryana Public Service Commission was expected to release the list of successful candidates by the weekend. |
Bid to murder minister’s gunman; 4 remanded Rewari, June 3 Satbir Singh, Deputy Chairman of the Bawal block samiti, Hari Singh, gunman, and Phool Singh, driver, were admitted to the PGIMS, Rohtak, yesterday. The trio were injured in the scuffle that ensued after they exchanged hot words with Sumer Singh, Inderjit and Dharmender, whose Maruti van was obstructing the movement of the official car of the minister on the Gothra-Pali road yesterday. Dr Ranga visited Gothra in connection with the Chief Minister’s “Open Darbar” to be held on June 6. At the time of the incident the minister was sitting in the car. Later, villagers reached the spot and pelted Satbir and Phool Singh with stones. In the scuffle Dharmender and Inderjit were also injured. Meanwhile the police has registered a case under Sections 353, 332, 186, 341, 307 and 34 of the IPC against Dharmender, Sumer Singh, Hoshiar Singh, Inderjit and others. |
Girl raped by PGIMS guards Rohtak, June 3 The girl Suman (not her real name) had come here Veena from Narwana for her treatment last night. They were received by Mahendra at the railway station. The three went to the PGIMS late at night where Mahendra allegedly took liberties with the girl. A security guard Rajesh saw them and took the girl along to the dental college building where he allegedly raped her. He subsequently called three other colleagues who too raped her. She was later noticed by other security personnel who handed her over to the police. Suman said she met Veena in New Delhi. She brought her to Narwana and forced her to have physical relations with some persons. She fell ill and Veena brought her to Rohtak on the pretext of treatment. The FIR named six persons, including Mahendra, Veena and Rajesh, who have been arrested. |

MPEd, LLM Sirsa, June 3 Two-year MP Ed course would focus on promoting sports on the campus. The university authorities were planning to create 30 seats for the course. The university was also introducing two-year LLM (evening studies) from the coming academic session. Though a percentage of the total seats would be reserved for the Haryana students, rest would be open for the other states, he said. The university authorities would recruit new faculty members and coaches for both the departments. “Besides, the regular faculty, we have plans to rope in professionals in imparting training and also organising training sessions for MP Ed,” he adds. The university covers the colleges of Sirsa, Hisar, Jind, Bhiwani and Fatehabad. Talking to The Tribune he said sports were on the top of the agenda for the university. The authorities had planned to give financial benefits to sports persons depending upon their achievements, he said. Stressing upon the need to give education a boost, Dr Dahiya is determined to further introduce research programmes in the near future besides inviting experts from overseas to give the
local students more exposure. |

Four held for
demanding ransom Ambala, June 3 Ashwini Aggarwal, who runs a share broking office in Saudagar Bazar in Ambala Sadar, received a ransom call on May 31. The caller demanded a ransom payment of Rs 12 lakh and threatened Ashwini with dire consequences, if the ransom amount was not paid. The share broker informed the police about the incident. The next day Ashwini again received a call and this time the caller hiked the ransom amount to Rs 40 lakh. The caller said that Ashwini could be killed if the ransom demand was not met. This time, the police traced the address of the caller and managed to arrest four persons. Three of the four persons who have been arrested turned out to be present or former employees of Ashwini. A police official said that in year 2000, Ashwini had employed one Sushil Gandhi. Pankaj Sharma had joined after Sushil Gandhi left the job. In the meantime, Ashwini Aggarwal learnt that somebody had made an attempt to withdraw money from his account but the attempt had failed since that account contained less money. He later employed Jitender. Jitender was an acquaintance of Pankaj Sharma. The police has arrested Sushil Gandhi of Ambala City, Pankaj Sharma of Kanpur, Jitender of Mahesh Nagar and Pankaj Chadha of Sector 9, Ambala City. It is on the look out for Pravesh Sharma. |

Red Cross gets crane, ambulance Yamunanagar, June 3 He was speaking at the annual
meeting of the District Red Cross Society. During the past year,
financial aid was provided to 229 poor girls for their marriage and
183 sewing machines, 335 hearing aids, 41wheelchairs, 124 pairs of
crutches and 561 artificial organs were distributed among the needy.
Recently, the District Red Cross had received a crane and an
ambulance costing Rs 26 Lakh from the government under the National
Highway Safety Scheme for rescue work in road accidents. The Deputy
Commissioner said a rehabilitation home near the bus stand at a cost
of Rs 25 lakh had been started to meet the requirement of physically
challenged persons. A sum of Rs 1.20 lakh in cash and utensils,
clothes, tents and food were provided to residents of five villages
who had been affected by fire during the past year. Mr Vijayender
Kumar awarded 164 persons and NGOs for their contribution to make the
Red Cross movement a success in the district. Later, he released a
book, “Sabhi ka Vishawas — Red Cross”. |

3 officials hurt in jail clash Rohtak, June 3 They have been identified as Head Warder Sat Pal, Warder Tej Pal and SAS Prithvi Singh. They have been admitted to the local PGIMS. It is learnt that a criminal was brought here from Tihar Jail in New Delhi but the jail authorities had refused to accept him. Angered by the refusal of the authorities to accept him, his associates assaulted the three officials. Those who assaulted them included Krishan, a notorious criminal, Joginder, Kaptan Singh, Mukesh, Himmat, Rajiv and Leela. |

Ice factories fined for power theft Sirsa, June 3 According to sources, raids were conducted on about 12 factories at Kalanwali and Odhan following a tip-off. Power theft was being committed at Rohit Ice Factory of Kalanwali and Rajinder Ice Factory of Odhan
using ‘kundi’ connections. A penalty of about Rs 4.8 lakh has been imposed on Rohit Ice Factory, while Rajindra Ice Factory will have to pay about Rs 3.2 lakh. Mr I.D. Mehta, Sub-Divisional Engineer, said the proprietors of these factories had been asked to deposit the penalty within 48 hours, failing which power connections to these would be permanently withdrawn. |

family members on two motor cycles reached near Untala village. A tractor-trailor hit the two motor cycles seriously, injuring four of them. Two were declared bought dead by doctors at Civil Hospital while two others succumbed to their injuries in a private hospital later. |
Telecom GM caught taking bribe Rohtak, June 3 It is learnt that he had demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000, which was to be paid in two instalments. The contractor lodged a complaint with the CBI in Chandigarh this morning. CBI officers registered a case and raided his office and house here. According to sources, the CBI seized several lakhs from the house of the officer. |
