Betrayers responsible for party defeat, says Chautala
Our Correspondent

Jhajjar, May 28
Haryana Chief Minister and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) supremo Om Prakash Chautala said the party had suffered a humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha elections due to the treacherous persons who made their way into the party to serve their purpose and betrayed, the party at the time of elections.

He called upon the loyal party workers to come forward and name such persons who would be punished.

Speaking at a party workers meeting here today, Mr Chautala spit venom against the state Congress leaders. The meeting was called to look into the causes which led to the rout of the party in the recent Lok Sabha poll.

Mr Chautala appeared in aggressive mood towards the party workers and said, “I know that many treacherous persons are seating in this meeting also and they would be dealt with strongly at the appropriate time.” He regretted that in their bid to swell the party ranks many “black sheeps” were inducted in the party which ultimately proved fatal for them.

He made casteist comments on the two Congress leaders of the state who were inducted in the ministry at the Centre saying that the Congress had never favoured the Jats.

When the party workers pointed out the non-implementation of the development at works due to apathetic attitude of the local administration as a cause of their defeat, the Chief Minister directed them to prepare a list of the government employees, saying that all such officials would be transferred.

“The entire executive body of the party also stands dissolved now and new party functionaries would be appointed on the recommendations of the party workers,” said the INLD supremo, asking the workers to recommend the names of hardcore loyalists who had worked with his father, the late Devi Lal.

Mr Chautala promised to accommodate more party workers in government jobs. He asked them to work hard for the victory of the party in the next Assembly elections. He maintained that unprecedented developmental works would be carried out in the state in the remaining tenure. Mr Chautala continued the boycott of the media.

BJP to release manifesto on June 6
Tribune News Service

Rohtak, May 28
The Haryana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party will release its manifesto for next year’s Assembly poll in the state on June 6 in Chandigarh, the state party chief, Mr Ganeshi Lal, announced here today.

Addressing a press conference, he said a meeting of over 3,000 office-bearers of various mandals of the party would meet on that day and finalise the manifesto. After the meeting, they would march in procession to the Haryana Raj Bhavan and present a memorandum to Governor Babu Parmanand.

He said the memorandum would highlight the problems being faced by the people under the Chautala regime, including the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Cases of extortion by criminals lodged in jails and patronised by ruling party leaders had gone up, he added.

The BJP chief said the party would seek immediate withdrawal of VAT imposed by the Haryana Government. The levy had brought businesses in Haryana to the brink of closure as these were unable to compete with their counterparts in the neighbouring states.

He said an unofficial “goonda tax” had been imposed by the ruling family on mining operations in the state. Despite opposition from the masses, this had not been checked.

Mr Ganeshi Lal said the Chautala government had failed to get the Punjab portion of the SYL canal completed despite apex court orders. The BJP memorandum would seek early completion of this important project.

The BJP leader said the party wanted unauthorised colonies to be regularised and an immediate end to demolitions by district administrations. The demolitions were ruining economically weaker sections, which had built houses there because of lower land rates.

The party would hold demonstrations at all district towns of the state in a phased manner after June 6 to highlight these issues at the local levels. Five meetings of intellectuals would be held at various towns in June to mobilise public opinion.

Mr Ganeshi Lal alleged that BJP workers were being terrorised all over the state after the INLD’s defeat in the elections. False cases were being registered against them and they were being humiliated in police stations. He feared that with the return of Mr M.S. Malik as the DGP, the repression would mount further.

He said there was no future for regional parties in the changed political context. These parties had to align either with the nationalist NDA or the Leftist UPA. He said in a way this was a welcome development since it was a precursor to a two-party political system.

RLD to contest 90 Haryana Assembly seats
Yoginder Gupta
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, May 28
The Haryana unit of the Rashtriya Lok Dal of Mr Ajit Singh has decided to contest all 90 seats of the state Vidhan Sabha in the next elections.

The newly appointed President of the party, Mr Rattan Singh Sarot, said a meeting of party workers had been convened in Rohtak for June 5 to chalk out a strategy for the elections.

Accusing INLD President, Om Prakash Chautala, of having “grabbed power on the basis of false promises” Mr Sarot said corruption under INLD rule had reached a new high.

The JBT teachers scam, he said, was only a tip of the iceberg. If an impartial inquiry was held in all recruitments made by the Chautala Government, many more skeletons would come out of the government cupboard.

Mr Sarot alleged that Mr Chautala’s claims about having launched thousands of development schemes were humbug. He said all the resources had been concentrated in the Chief Minister’s native district of Sirsa. He claimed the Centre had given Rs 342 crore for the maintenance of canals in Haryana. However, the Chautala Government spent Rs 320 crore on the Bhakra canal system alone, which carried water to Sirsa district southern Haryana, he said, was still thirsty and the state government had not paid any attention towards this area.
