Amethi to be
Rahul Gandhi’s launching pad
New Delhi, March 21
It
is finally official. The Congress today ended months of speculation when
it formally announced Rahul Gandhi’s debut in politics. Former Prime
Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s son is all set to take the electoral plunge in
the forthcoming Lok Sabha election. He is the party’s candidate from
Amethi, the constituency represented by his father and now by his
mother, Sonia Gandhi.

The BJP today released its third
list of 52 candidates for the coming Lok Sabha elections, in which
party’s Punjab unit president Avinash Rai Khanna had been nominated from
the Hoshiarpur seat. The party deferred decision on Haryana to March 23.

HQ attacked, one Iraqi killed
Baghdad, March 21
At least one person was killed and
several wounded today as the US coalition headquarters in Baghdad came
under a rocket attack, pushing Iraq into its second year of occupation
amid a rising wave of violence.

Maoists killed in Nepal
Kathmandu, March 21
More than 500 Maoists were killed
and over 200 injured in Beni, Myagdi district, 300 km west of Kathmandu
last night, Royal Nepal Army claimed here today.
