PU plans 5% fee hike from next session
Chandigarh, November 25
Panjab University has proposed a fee hike of 5 per cent from the next academic session (2015-16). The issue was taken up at a meeting of the fee committee, chaired by PU Dean University Instructions AK Bhandari today. Last year too, the university had increased the fee by 5 per cent.

Student of Class XI alleges rape by father
Chandigarh, November 25
A Class XI student of Guru Gobind Singh Senior Secondary School, Sector 35, has accused her father of raping her since the age of 12. The victim today submitted a complaint to the school Principal, who informed the police about the incident.

Nineteen years on, two convicted
Chandigarh, November 25
Almost 19 years after a fake licence scam in the UT Registering and Licensing Authority came to light, the court of CBI Magistrate Anubhav Sharma convicted two persons and sentenced them to pay a fine of Rs 5,000, holding them guilty under Sections 417 and 465 (cheating and forgery) of the IPC.

Medical negligence cases adjourned

A Circuit Bench of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Chandigarh today adjourned both cases of medical negligence against the PGI and Government Multi Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 to be heard at another date by the Delhi Bench.

Zirakpur: Registering their resentment against the delimitation of wards carved out of the municipal limits political parties, local leaders, villages and individuals have filed their objections before the Department of Local Government, Punjab. Brawl case: Three get 3 years in jail
Chandigarh, November 25
The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge KK Kareer on Tuesday sentenced three members of a family to three years rigorous imprisonment in a case of brawl. The court had also imposed a fine of Rs 3,500 to each of the three accused in the case. Those sentenced have been identified as Amit Kumar, Sandeep Kumar and Rajpal. While Amit and Sandeep are brothers, Rajpal is their father.

7-month-old’s body found in Ghaggar
Panchkula, November 25
The body of a seven-month-old baby was found floating in the Ghaggar in Sector 23 here this afternoon. The police have taken the body into possession and sent it to the morgue. The police have not disclosed the gender of the infant.

1 held for driving car with fake number plate
Chandigarh, November 25
The crime branch of the Chandigarh Police arrested Devinder Suri, a resident of Sector 23, Chandigarh, from near the Sector 19/27 light point, when he was riding a Duster car bearing a fake number. A case has been registered at the Sector 19 police station and an investigation has been initiated.
