Metro inducts first train wrapped with advertisements
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, November 22
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today inducted into passenger service the first ever train with advertisements wrapped on its exterior. The first train was inducted on Dwarka-Vaishali route of Blue Line, an official of the DMRC said.

Approximately, 15 such trains will be inducted into service initially with seven trains on Line 2 from Jahangirpuri to HUDA City Centre and eight trains on Line 3 and 4 which are the busiest lines of the Delhi Metro network.

The first train on Line 2 will also be inducted by next week. Currently only six-coach trains are being wrapped. Gradually trains on other corridors will also be covered, the official said.

To augment the non-operational revenues of the DMRC through advertisements, the Delhi Metro has awarded exclusive advertising rights for displaying advertising materials, including pictures, printed material, electronic media, smart posters, holographic images, visual displays, etc., on the external part of its trains, he said.

Currently, the DMRC operates a fleet of over 200 train sets with over 60 eight-coach trains and over 80 six-coach trains. The "train wraps" have been permitted on 10 per cent of the total train sets available on the operational lines of the Delhi Metro network.

The exclusive advertising rights have been given to two agencies, which will be valid for 10 years. The selected agencies will give annual license fee in lieu of the exclusive advertising rights.

The DMRC will also monitor this activity, so that it also contributes to the aesthetical value of the Delhi Metro through high quality advertising comparable to world-class airports and Metros railways and other leading destinations.

So far, the DMRC has been advertising inside the Metro trains apart from station premises, he added.

New Delhi, November 22
Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu today asked the Delhi government to acquire buildings on rent if required, for sheltering the homeless during the winter season.

The Union minister said this during a review meeting in respect of various issues of Delhi, including regularization of unauthorized colonies, drinking water problem in the Dwarka area, land availability issues, Metro projects, night shelters, notification of 351 roads for allowing commercial mixed land use, extension of the Delhi Special Provisions Act, decongestion of Delhi, allocation of about 22,000 houses built under JNNURM, finalisation of simplified building bye-laws, land related issues, construction of foot over bridges, de-sealing of properties, construction of parking spaces by the DDA, rehabilitation of transport workers, etc.

After taking stock of progress in respect of various issues, Naidu directed all the concerned to speed up works in respect of ongoing projects and put up firm proposals on issues requiring inter-agency consultations at the earliest for further discussion with the Lt. Governor.

Naidu directed the DDA and the Delhi Jal Board to complete transfer of assets to the DJB quickly. The issue of Munak canal will be taken up with the Haryana Chief Minister who would be in Delhi next week.

Regularise illegal colonies, demands BJP
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, November 22
Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay today submitted a memorandum to the Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu demanding regularisation of unauthorized colonies in Delhi.

He mentioned eight other issues of Delhi in the memorandum.

The DDA, Delhi government and Municipal Corporations should pass orders for providing community services to all the unauthorized colonies on the basis of the recommendations of the MPs of Delhi.

The Delhi Special Provision Act-II, 2011 should be extended by three years more and all the constructions and colonies which have come up with in this period should be included in the purview of this act, said Upadhyay.

An amount of Rs. 500 crore should be granted for sanitation work in Delhi to municipal bodies.

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) should allot land to the Delhi Jal Board for solving the problem of water supply in Dwarka and west Delhi. The Central government should intervene and ensure supply of Yamuna water from Haryana to Delhi through Munak Canal.

After the restrictions on running industries in Delhi, many industrial areas and premises of factories are vacant. Some people are using the vacant industrial premises for other purposes, though that is not legal. Keeping people's necessity in view, the government should allow commercial activities on the industrial plots.
